Huh? Can you explain more? I’ve self-hosted for a few years now, I set up the config once, made a cronjob that updates every now and then, and it just works on a reasonably fast server.

All of history was a shitshow. There was not one century this side of the invention of agriculture where we didn’t commit war crimes. Hell, it took us thousands of years to come up with the idea of war crimes, the very idea that killing and enslaving everyone and salting their earth might not be super cool.

Many microwaves suck as faraday cages, because they are made to be an effective cage only for a very specific frequency (the one the microwave runs at). Unfortunately, mobile radio frequencies are all over the place, for historic, technical, competition etc. reasons. So it is not a good Faraday cage, unless you want to only block out a specific radio (usually, 2.4 GHz Wifi and Bluetooth should be blocked).

You can build a good, vhf to multi-gigahertz frequencies cage by using a metal box and covering all the gaps, cracks etc. in tinfoil or copper tape. Bonus points for grounding. I made a decent one (for some unrelated radio experiments) out of a metal box and a tin foil seal, -60 dB at 2.4 GHz and no reason why it wouldn’t work at other frequencies.

I feel like they are more treating the symptoms, they do not catch all the flies, so it only helps a bit by thinning their numbers. I have a Sarracenia plant that seems to be thriving, so at least some of the gnats were “recycled”

I have to remember that. I tried some nematodes that were supposed to eat the larvae, but it did not seem to work, even after a few weeks. The neem oil was mostly just for (against) plant lice, which it turned out to be doing jack shit to. But hey, the flies are gone, and the lice were contained by getting rid of the one plant that had the lice.

Wie gesagt, ich hab keine Ahnung. Aus idealistischer Sicht finde ich das Konzept Vermögenssteuer erst mal recht sympathisch. Aber mir ist schon klar, dass das nicht so einfach geht.

Eine hohe Grundsteuer hat ja auch Nachteile, das klassische Beispiel von alten Menschen im Eigenheim, die sich mit knapper Rente die Steuern nicht wirklich leisten können zB.

Guter Punkt. Keine Ahnung, ob ich das mehr oder weniger fair finde. Auf der einen Seite ist es wahrscheinlich besser, wenn mehr Menschen Immobilien haben, auf der anderen Seite sind Immobilien deutlich konkreter für zB eine Stadt wichtig als jemand mit 100 Bitcoins.

Oh come on, that is a pretty flawed argument. “Tell me, how me doing this particular, isolated thing, is directly causing this complicated big thing, otherwise you are wrong”.

But we are not arguing that: We are arguing about, what if I had a magical button that would magically give everyone in the world access to the “decent living standards” and nothing more? Would it be ethical, would you push this button? Even if you are, right now, way above the line?

And to that I say, yes, if it was possible to do this, I believe it would be the right thing to do. And I believe that anyone arguing we should not press the button, because pushing this button is hurting their lifestyle, is arguing that billions of people deserve to live a much worse life for being in the wrong place so that we can have our lifestyle.

Of course I do not have such a button. That is not the point.

I am assuming they selected spies for stuff like sneaking into enemy air bases and talking themselves out of sticky situations in a foreign language, not drawing planes. Although, if your job is to sneak into an airbase and draw a plane, maybe do practice the plane drawing part a bit…

Main tip, have patience. It takes weeks to get rid of them. Maybe you need to sacrifice a plant. But it is doable.

What did it finally was a combination of sand in the pots, the bare minimum of watering, glue traps everywhere and some Neem tree oil directly in the water/soil. Also, quarantining plants with a lot of flies.
