Got the timeline wrong, should be over 50s.
If you are in your 40s you were probably were a full-on teenager blaring this as hard as your crappy Trust speakers could manage.
Of course that means if you were in your 50s you were in your twenties, so… probably same? Games have been around for a while now.
This. I’m 41 and video games have existed literally my entire life.
About to be 53, and we had an Atari when I was a little kid.
Unreal forever! Quake sux!
Ahem. Anyone old enough to remember the bitter rivalry between the two camps would most definitely not be upset by people playing games :p
Quake predates Unreal by two years. Quake wins.
Unreal learned from Quake’s mistakes and was better for it.
And wasn’t nearly as good.
Hey, no hate for Unreal. It made a great screensaver.
Honestly, I’d show you what I mean if Unreal 1 didn’t have the worst SEO in recorded history.
Search engine optimization?
Yeah, you try finding screenshots from a game called Unreal when they ended up using that name for the engine that has been dominating all of gaming for a couple of decades. Turns out, really hard.
Try going with Unreal Gold or Unreal 1999 or something like that
Yeah, I’m being slightly facetious. You can get at least some results if you just go “Unreal 1”, but it’s still remarkably obscure, all things considered. If you search Quake you just get Quake, you know. They didn´t go ahead and call the engine “Quake”.
Are you 12?
Most 40 year old are now from the beginning of peak video game era. I don’t know a single male friend who doesn’t at least dabble.
Oh right, engagement bait exists.
In my experience it is mainly teenagers who are watching videos on their phone in the public space (especially public transportation) with max volume.
I’ve experienced boomers as well. Texting with the keyboard typing noise set to 11. Video calling people on max volume and still shouting at each other.
The age in this meme is totally wrong. 40s are millennials who hate it when stuff makes noise. They keep their phone on silent, would put in earbuds when calling someone and go to another room if possible. Not like they would ever call anyone, if they get a call they just stare at the screen in horror. When it stops they text asking what’s up.

I’m sure you meant “When it stops they wait for a text explaining what’s up”! Or is that just me 😶🌫️
in my experience it is mainly absolute fucking idiots, real excrement in humanoid form, ogres with empty eyes, nothing going on in that noggin, utter waste products of flesh who are watching videos on their phond in the public space (especially public transportation) with max volume.
Indeed, fuckwittery crosses all age barriers
I’m almost 40 and none of my 40+ friends use Facebook that way if at all. I don’t have an account in the first place
I’m not too far behind and I only have one because I can’t fucking avoid it.
Really wish my kids school groups would use fucking anything else to distribute information…
I’d suggest Discord because it’s popular with the younger crowd, but by the looks of it, it’s also slowly circling the shitter.
I really wish a FOSS project could replace all these platforms someday. Maybe people would reconsider the potential it has, rather than depend on some fucking corporation to do the right thing.
OK Zoomer
I’m 52 and have been playing video games since we go the Atari 2600 when I was about 6 (while they only play mobile shit these days, both of my parents actually played the Atari when we had it).
We’ve owned all but 2 of the Nintendo consoles (Wii U and the Switch 2), Numerous Xbox and Play Stations (more for my boys, but I have an XBox One that I still play a bit), and have been a PC gamer since DOS (Lemmings and Duke Nukem).
My Steam account will be 22 years old in a few months, and something gets played every week.
