+1. Tell a Republican you support socialism, LGBTQ+ rights, feminism, and green politics. I’m sure they’ll respect your “different views” like the Trump administration that has famously been very respectful of such views.

Further, Sydney made her fortune off of lgbt friendly shit like euphoria and immaculate, which is basically an allegory for women’s bodily autonomy (released post roe v wade repeal). Gigantic hypocrite who had (just going off Wikipedia) the privilege of a reasonably affluent family that could uproot themselves (from a house their family lived in for 5 generations, apparently) to move to California to chase her acting dreams. Imagine you’re in middle school and you’re like “hey dad can we move across the country so I can chase my acting dreams? Just sell the house and buy a new one” absurd. My dad would laugh in my fucking face and he would be correct to do so.

And I’m sure if you point this out to her she would discount it to point out how she “worked SO hard”, like when anyone privileged is confronted with intersectionality. You mean some people’s daddies don’t own their houses? You mean some people’s daddies aren’t lawyers? You mean some people’s daddies are dead? Well they just need to try harder!

Interesting to wonder if she is friendly with hunter schaefer, her trans costar from euphoria? her maga drama goes back to when they were making that show and it appears she is a “devout Christian”. Or is she one of those maga apologists that can temporarily excuse those things as long as the member of the oppressed class is also rich and/or being respectful to the member of the oppressed class is contingent to maintaining their own wealth and power.

Hunter Schaefer of course also being one of those “one true trans” types, that deny the identity of those who do not get or have access to medical support. How wonderful must it be to have access to a support system and the resources to obtain such a thing. Sorry nonbinary people, sorry people with shitty families, sorry people who live in states that make gender affirming care difficult or impossible to access (especially for pediatric cases), sorry people who don’t have health insurance or have terrible health insurance and don’t have affluent families, your trans identity isn’t valid because a rich trans lady was lucky enough to be born to a family that supported her and gave her the means to grow into a classist shithead.

Class solidarity above all, every time, fuck the rich

She’s a public figure, and this information extremely relevant to that status.

Edit: changed and added some words to make comment clearer.

Good. People are allowed to have different views, they just need to remember we’re also allowed to think they’re selfish morons for having them.

Registered party means nothing other than what primary you vote in. depending on your location, being registered to the republican party is the only way to have a voice at all in primaries and try and reduce your amount of local crazies in the election.

You shouldn’t dox people, and I don’t know anything about Sydney Sweeney, but unless she’s actively political, really, even her registered party shouldn’t be worthwhile news.

It’s my honest opinion that if a celebrity tries to keep their political opinions to themselves, then we should let them. We don’t need to know all of the opinions of every celebrity.

Public figure. And if you’re voting for fascism in America, you deserve everything that comes with that.

Votes are private. Unless she has stated it, we simply don’t know who she is voting for. She may even be in a county that is overwhelmingly red, and because of our terrible FPTP voting system, her best chance of voting for a better candidate may be in the Republican primaries.

You know, one of the things that I’ve liked about Lemmy compared to Reddit is that occasionally, you can have a civilized discussion here. The more people rush to judge here on Lemmy, the more toxic the platform will become.

There is a difference between delusion and steelmanning. I would argue that if you don’t know how to steelman, then you’re not really capable of having a civilized discussion. Civilized discussions require empathy.

empathy? Like I should try and understand a Nazis POV… have a civilized dicussion with him/her?

At some point you need to just look the other person in the face and tell them to get fucked.

I’m rapidly approaching that point with you.

Yes, telling the other person to “get fucked” is a guaranteed way to ensure that you aren’t having a civilized discussion.

And yes, MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca, empathy is necessary, not just to have a civilized discussion, but simply to be a human. Like, for example, I am empathizing with you here, despite your escalating rhetoric. Suddenly, it’s not about us having a discussion, it’s about having a discussion with a Nazi. These are the sorts of things people say when they just want to win, and they don’t care how they do it. Ironically, a tactic pretty closely associated with Nazis.

The reason humans bait mouse traps with food is they have empathy for the mouse. Maybe you shouldn’t throw away such a useful tool out of a desperate need to feel like you’ve won an argument.
