I agree, and I said this in another discussion and I’ll say it again: this is 2nd best case scenario for action games. I’d rather we get Project G.G. or Scalebound than Bayonetta 3 or Ninja Gaiden 4, but if new iterations are all we can get for now, we’ll take them—it’s better than nothing, and may eventually lead to new IPs, who knows.

Wow, OK, now we kind of have to start talking about an action game resurregence: DMC5, GoW reboot, Bayonetta 3, NG4, Onimusha reboot/spin off, and now Darksiders 4. What even is missing at this point?! MGR 2? Even Shinobi got a new game…

For the love of any and everything holy, Capcom, please, there’s no better time to open the vaults and release Viewtiful Joe and God Hand! You even got Kamiya back and resurrected both Okami and Clover, come on!

I would assume this to be the case since you cannot un-utter a wish—once you say it, it is counted as a wish before it’s fulfilled.

If the counter is decremented only after the wish is fulfilled, then this means you can go back on wishes because they don’t count until they’re fulfilled, which goes against the lore.

I did sail the high seas to play it though, pretty good game. Solid, mid-tier Platinum game—more fun than Korra, which wasn’t bad even though the world felt a little too empty.

Hate to break it to you, but you still haven’t played any visual novel because Disco Elysium is a CRPG.

A visual novel would be VA-11 HALL-A or Milk Outside a Bag of Milk Outside a Bag of Milk.

I can only speak about my favorite genres:

Action games: this one is easy—Devil May Cry 1.

Shmups: Hmm… Battle Garegga? I’d actually rather go for a CAVE shmup seeing how influential they were, but I could be biased: DoDonPachi.

Fighting games: hmm… a bunch could go in here, but if I have to choose one, it should be Street Fighter II. Biased pick is Guilty Gear Plus R.

Yeah, but the tag makes it sound like these games have more similarities with metroidvanias than just gated areas.

Imagine someone clicking on the tag because they recognized Metroid only to find The Witness…

I hate it, I think it’s silly, and will potentially confuse anyone who’s not familiar with it, but if it makes it easier for people to find these games eventually then eh 🤷‍♂️

I hate “character action games” too but I use that tag regularly to find new games.

I wish we go back to just layering descriptors though… more room for nuance this way.

I understand a shorthand tag is convenient, but it also adds confusion.

I spent exactly 1 hour with Blasphemous before refunding it. Too much platforming for me and the combat is not exactly fun and didn’t feel fresh.

Best combat in any metroidvania is F.I.S.T: Forged in Shadow Torch and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, IMO. They’re almost like character action games: launchers, on-the-fly weapon switching, dash/jump canceling… etc. Full combo systems—only thing missing is a style meter.

Because they keep hiring writers who have nothing to do with Blade.

The only person who’s written a good, modern Blade story—Marc Guggenheim—has had nothing to do with this project so far. IDK if he’s “too in” with DC to be a viable option, but it’s odd he has not been involved it when he’s the only obvious option… it’s not like modern Blade has a ton of great comic book arcs.

Hmm… but isn’t it an “ongoing series”? Like, you can have short or long arcs, but if the continuity is the same, the story technically hasn’t ended.

I agree gaming takes it a step further, but this is like comparing a worse example to a bad one… yeah, one is worse, but they both suck at the end of the day.

I’m glad you like Fast and Furious, but it’s only one example of many. It’s not the only movie franchise being milked to death, and won’t be the last.

Yes, but it’s also devoid of creativity and takes up space that could be occupied by more creative endeavors, so it’s a similar path at the end of the day.

My point is pointing a finger at Fortnite and Epic Games is fair, but same finger should also be pointed at Universal, Disney, NBC… etc.

And the biggest finger should be pointed at capitalism itself.
