I’d argue it is the same thing, it’s just that the Roman Empire lasted so long and it was changing the whole time, so it’s often necessary to compartmentalise it to a degree
I would say yes, just a very short-lived one. I’d struggle to come up with a definition of an empire that excluded Nazi Germany short of just arbitrarily imposing a minimum required lifespan. It was definitely a large, powerful, expansionist state that conquered other areas in order to subjugate them for the benefit of a metropole. The Reichskommisariats were basically intended as colonial administrations, not to mention client states like Slovakia

To explain more specifically for those that are, like me, curious but unfamiliar:
- Top left of each of those keys is the Danish layout
- Top right is Norwegian
- Bottom right is Swedish
- The Å is the same in all three so it can just be by itself
Skua@kbin.earthto Global News@lemmy.zip•Ukraine Sends Evidence of 10,000 Russian Chemical Attacks to The Hague2·12 hours agoUkraine was still a signatory to the mines one when that article was written. Still is now, I think, but has announced it will withdraw. The cluster bombs point is correct though
Skua@kbin.earthto Global News@lemmy.zip•Ukraine Sends Evidence of 10,000 Russian Chemical Attacks to The Hague4·12 hours agoProbably specifically because they have non-war uses (even if the police ones shouldn’t be used like that, they currently are). The convention classifies chemical weapons differently depending on their civilian uses, so you can stockpile a lot of pesticide without attracting attention much more easily than you can stockpile a lot of novichok
Skua@kbin.earthto Global News@lemmy.zip•Ukraine Sends Evidence of 10,000 Russian Chemical Attacks to The Hague81·14 hours agoChloropicrin isn’t tear gas, it’s a pesticide that’s poisonous to humans. It was used in WW1 because it can circumvent and damage gas masks, and it absolutely can kill
Russia is a signatory to both the 1925 Protocol and the 1993 Convention against using chemical weapons (the latter of which even specifically names chloropicrin), so usage of these - even the ones police use - is a war crime
Also, really, is “American police use them” a defence?
Lamb season always makes me smile. My mother used to absolutely melt when she saw them, so it’s a happy reminder of her
Farmers, I assume. It was a small village with a lot of farms

This one just about got the better of me. No idea why I had so much trouble with it

I do not care about the actual film at all, but supposedly Cameron hired a bunch of leading ethnomusicologists to attempt to create something unlike any music on Earth, only to then ditch the majority of what they made because it sounded too weird
I did this recently when I walked past someone’s garden and their pet sheep came over to see me. I was happily chatting away to the sheep about how much it had been munching away and how hot it must be with all that wool when a very confused postman I had not noticed responded

Surely it should be expected to at least match the performance of the incoming drone?
Skua@kbin.earthto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Video appears to show Putin's bodyguards armed with a handheld anti-drone interceptor4·2 days agoIt works by physically ramming the incoming drone, so it probably can knock things off course
Skua@kbin.earthto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Ukraine shifts defense procurement to domestic suppliers, nearly all drones now Ukrainian-made13·3 days agoUkraine already has a lot of other domestic military production and Russia has not been able to destroy it. Major Czech and German companies are even building plants in Ukraine, so they seem to have looked at the situation and decided it is possible and cost-effective to protect then (I assume by building them far from the frontline - Ukraine is a big place)
If they can do so then it means less difficulty with logistics, more of Ukraine’s limited resources staying in Ukraine, and less reliance on potentially unreliable supporting countries

(Disclaimer: it never says Patrick kills him. He just happens to actually die)
Mongol guy’s font change has been living in my head all afternoon. Why is it only him? Why does getting the Mongol empire make him start speaking in a Charles-Rennie-Mackintosh-looking font? Like, the artist obviously likes to play it loose with typefaces in the rest of the comic too, but this one guy seems like the centre of the typographical attention and I do not understand the choices made
