Why should Ukranians pay for that though?
Although i strongly doubt, that they would have R&D justifying 4x the price of Ukrainian competitors, when people in the field say that the capabilities are similar.
Did you consider that project managers often have to follow all sorts of company standards, have to figure out a way to get a dozen departments with conflicting standards together, on top of that have to catch the stupid ideas from the upper-management and marketing without telling the upper-management that they have no idea what they are talking about, on top of getting something actually done in the project?
Because often the level of tech competency has very little to do with the decision corridor that the project manager has, given everything else.
Imagine you had 2hours more every day so you could work through the todo at home and enjoy the rest of your time at home or anywhere else that is neither your work nor your car.
Ukrainians are actually reporting the drones to be vastly overpriced compared to similar Ukrainian drones.
Otherwise there is quite a few indications of corruption and it wouldn’t be surprising if Helsing will become the next Wirecard, as Germany once again follows the fever dream of some billions-worth start-up without following up on what it actually can and cannot do.
I highly recommend that read. Seems like Helsing’s shooting star success is tied to having good contacts with the German defense ministry and Ursula von der Leyen, which both are indicators of corruption.
Ukrainian soldiers report the drones to be vastly overpriced for what they are and drones costing less than a quarter of the Helsing drones to have similar capabilities.
This sounds like another Wirecard scandal in the making, where the desperation of Germany to create some billion Euro startup is exploited by corrupt politicans and company owners. Given the context it also wouldn’t be surprising if intelligence is involved.
Ukrainians seem to be better of with domestically produced drones.
And stop calling this escalation, china has been doing that for quite a while now.
Escalation can be mutual and reciprocal.
However as the article cautions, the Philippines should be wary of the US changing its mind and abandoning them, as the US has done with many “allies” before, after ramping up escalation.
The US wants to contain China inside the islands. They are not interested in your countries, or any countries sovereignty unless it benefits the US. Any mayor power acts like this.
The 71 years old intelligence officer has a 40 years old son. And that 40 years old son has a 10 years old son…
Loyalties to regimes or opposition against them are often inherited inside families.
When the US stationed missiles in Turkiye and Italy, which could reach the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union returned the friendly gesture with stationing missiles in Cuba.
Somehow in the west this is know as “Cuba missile crisis” and not as “Turkiye missile crisis” despite the US having started it.

Arguably these were nuclear missiles, which is a level further, but the Typhon launchers are also nuclear capable.
I have no doubts that the US would react in a similar fashion if Russia or China were to station comparable systems in Central America again.
We don’t know why the people opposed that.
Last time Israelis settled in Gaza they gave it up 20 years ago, as the resistance made it too costly to maintain. By now a significant number of Israelis will know some IDF member who was killed or permanently injured when invading Gaza and the prospect of having hundreds of thousands of young men and women permanently lacking in the economy as they patrol Gaza, is not that enticing for many.
I strongly doubt that humanitarian considerations have played a relevant role for most of the “pure” Israeli respondents. We have seen many polls over the past two years and before, where Palestinians have been completely dehumanized by the Israeli society and the public discourse only has grown more genocidal as the time moved on.
The US and UK installed dictator, the so called Shah had close ties with Israel. Among other things Mossad trained the interior intelligence of the Shah, which has tortured, killed and disappeared tens of thousands of people. When the revolution ousted the Shah, his cronies held strong resentment and many of them readily do the bidding for Israel and other adversaries.
As shown by some rather spectacular assassinations of Iranian military leaders, but also civilian scientists, or last year the assassination of the Hamas political chief in Tehran, it is evident that Mossad has quite a foothold in Iran.
In regards to Afghanis, who had to flee with the Taliban retaking power, many of them are in a vulnerable position, and some of them had developed quite close ties to the US and other NATO countries during the occupation, so attempting to recruit Afghani refugees in Iran should also yield some success.
All of this does not mean, that the regime in Iran isn’t using the situation to scapegoat Afghanis and as a pretext to expel them. Both are true. There is Iranians and probably some Afghanis spying for Israel, and the Afghani refugees are facing unjustified persecution by the Iranian regime.
I think i have seen articles like this also 15 years ago. I also remember tv “documentaries” about “killer games” in Germany from almost 20 years ago, where they tried to paint everyone playing FPS games as Nazis too. One argument was that there is call of duty mods that allow to show the original graphics, where WW2 Nazis have swastikas on their uniform, which have been censored in the German version.
Extremists trying to recruit teenagers has been an issue since forever. As the “space” where teenagers spend their time moved online, so did the recruiting efforts.
The problem is real, but it should not be tied to games, or to rock music or to sports or to any particular hobby. It is a problem encompassing all of society. Parents need to talk with their children and know what is going on in their lives.
In the case of El Salvador it was always meddled with by the US, as in many other countries in South and Middle America. The US would only let “deomcracy” run its course, if the outcome was favourable to the US administration and US businesses.
