Yeah but thats not really steamOS using the aur.
SteamOS using the aur would be unlocking the root folder, doing a pacman update and then using the AUR which I assume very very few users do.
I only mention this because everytime arch is mentioned steamOS gets dragged up as if its the same thing when they’re worlds apart.
Using the AUR via distrobox can be done on every distro.

Fizz@lemmy.nzto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Microsoft confirms it made $27 billion after laying off 9,000 people, and its CEO physically cannot stop talking about AI2·19 hours agoIts funny how anti ai people here are. Even if you hate AI which I do you have to recognise it has uses and is disrupting industries. Billions of people use AI every day. Chatgpt has like 500m daily users, every google search gives an ai summary, most developer uses it. This is already here and people are adopting it.
Even at it’s current state AI is useful. Then when you look at the progress of benchmarks and watch them getting better and better and better. You see the tooling being built out new developments every week. Its moving very fast.
Fizz@lemmy.nzto World News@lemmy.world•Far-right extremists using games platforms to radicalise teenagers, report warnsEnglish2·24 hours agoWhat scares me is the organization of the extremist groups. It makes me feel like something has to be done to counter their influence. But I dont know what can be done because things are so cooked right now.
You can watch openly nazi pol boards where they sift through news stories and craft a narrative and then see the president of the US echoing it less than a week later. It used to take years for that stuff to filter out into the mainstream if it ever did. X is so bad for this stuff because news outlets treat it like a source of information so all you need is a bunch of fake accounts and you can make anything seem like news. Then news outlets report on it, then the next layer picks it up and echos it out to their audience and so on.

Fizz@lemmy.nzto World News@lemmy.world•Far-right extremists using games platforms to radicalise teenagers, report warnsEnglish1·1 day agoI’m not on the popular parts of the internet often but when I do get a glimpse I’m shocked at how much extremist content is just out there completely in your face.
It didnt used to be like that 10 years ago. The algorithms are being gamed to push extreme right and extreme left content to young people. It doesnt strike me as organic. I dont think majority of the audience have an interest in these topics.
Ive heard people repeat a “meme” and I have to stop them and be like where did you hear that why are you saying that thats a meme used by white supremacists to dogwhistle about mass killing events.
The internet is fucking wild. It may be more censored than ever but the content on there is still crazier and more extreme than it ever was. People have learnt to avoid the censorship, dont swear, don’t use slurs, dont post gore or nsfw content after that you can pretty much say whatever you want.

There is a lot of research to support the idea that adults are less likely to pick up a skill if they weren’t exposed to it as a kid. If you dont grow up working with technology to make things you’re less likely to go down that route as an adult or late teen. Thats a huge disadvantage in today’s age.

Then you get to enjoy watching others hit their head.

I tried playing games like Tony hawk pro skater or racing games, but every time I’d turn I’d lose my balance and almost fall off the treadmill. So anything i could play had to be slow placed or not have a 3d camera.
Yes but thats not relevant. Its like me saying windows users dont use the AUR and then you saying um actually im on windows and I run arch in a VM and use the AUR. Like ok thats still the AUR being used on arch.
Like the topic is AUR malware and someone was like arch users and steamOS users. But steamOS users dont need to be worried or lumped in because they aren’t using the aur unless they’re also using arch through vm or distrobox or whatever.
Am I making sense?
