North Korea, Venezuela, the USSR during the Cold War, East Germany, heck even China (I know on good authority) all have had people flee and many of the above nations had to put up literal barriers to try and stop the fleeing.
……why? Isn’t socialism supposed to be the end-means ultimate utopian model society that all should strive for proudly? Why would anyone want to flee that for the “evil dregs” of capitalism?
Help me make sense of this.
As I understand it, they’re usually running from authoritarianism, which comes in all flavors.
Just like people fleeing Pinochet in Chile, or Sadam in Iraq. No one has ever accused them of being socialist, but people still flee.
So if it’s so awesome, how come there aren’t more socialist countries that are successful? If it’s soooo awesome, there should be way more socialist countries. Right?:)
