China is installing wind and solar power projects faster than any other country on the planet. As President-elect Donald Trump is likely to roll back on the US’ role as a global climate leader, experts say China will have to lead the charge.

Greatest Marxist in the 21st century so far.

The century is still young, I wonder what great comrades we’ll witness in the future.

China’s overall electricity generation is now more than the US, EU and India combined:

A great comment from Twitter on this:

And this is before you take into account the fact that China is also electrifying the entire Global South with solar (and other renewables), which represent an incredible 87% of all Global South new power generation investment ( https://rmi.org/wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/2024/10/Powering_up_the_global_south.pdf ).

It’s a far bigger story than most people realize. As I wrote back in July ( https://substack.com/@arnaudbertrand/p-167499537 ) we’re witnessing the construction of an entirely new global energy system, and it’s starting to become clearer and clearer that the strategic and economic implications are immense.

The big realization for me was that green tech = energy sovereignty. Not only might we have a chance to avert the worst scenarios with the climate crisis, but it also means developing countries will not be reliant on energy imports. This greatly reduces the potential for external coercion.

And the infrastructure can be far more decentralized than oil wells and refineries which are easy targets for missile strikes.

Exactly, also as the climate crisis keeps getting worse it’s going to be very important to not be reliant on global supply chains. I really think resiliency should be a big priority going forward, and countries should be trying to figure out how to produce all the essentials locally.
