This is also good counterpoint to the “if we tax the rich, they’ll leave!” argument because, when the supply leaves, the demand doesn’t. Just like here, where Canadian (and central/south American, European, African, Asian, etc) products step up to fill the gap, if a rich person fucks off because we’re asking them to pay their fair share, there’s a really good chance that someone less greedy will step in to fill the gap because the demand is still there.
We spend far, far too much time lionizing the supply side of the economy, but it’s the demand-side that really matters.

So when the rich leave, we would be worse off. That would mean the reverse would also be true: if there are more millionaires and billionaires, everybody should be better off. And the number of millionaires and miljonairs billionaires has gone up the last few decades, so cost of living should’ve improved a lot. It hasn’t. So tax them.
Well if we have more billionaires the average income will go up which in turn makes things more affordable (cost of living vs. average income). Numbers and statistics can say whatever you want with a bit of creative perspective.

So this is a rather old article, it is not a new story. I do love seeing that our thoughts have not changed since March. Well most of Canadian thoughts have not changed.
I used to have a hard time finding non-American produce in the store. That has changed. As much as I hate to buy fruit from South Africa, onions from Europe, garlic from China, peanuts from India, and tomatoes from Peru. I’ll do it to give the US my extended Canadian finger.
I am starting to see more and more local choices come up though, which is great.
Good. As an American I mean it when I say we deserve this for rejecting the fat, demented, narcissistic Orange Jackass into the fucking Whitehouse. Again. we all warned the country exactly what would happen, but the Faux News brainwashed assholes decided that they’d rather be able to use racial slurs and chase off foreign-born scapegoats than have a functioning country. Where is this happening? Our local foodbasics constantly features American produce both in their flyer and in the store. Their packaged food will often have a maple leaf, but the country of origin is mostly from the States.
Hell, out of like 5 different type of bagged apples, only one has been Canadian over the last month, and it’s always the shitty Red Delicious variety. Are you telling me Canada has no apples?

Organize your community and talk to your grocers if they’re not complying with the national movement to sever ties with American product. Pit the grocers one against the other.
My friends in Ottawa are reporting Made in Canada tags everywhere, including Canadian-sourced produce. My parents in Winnipeg are reporting the same. A friend in Calgary is saying it’s surprisingly easy to get non-American products now. I don’t know where you are, but it’s definitely a growing and widespread movement over most of Canada.
