    They don’t need to literally “listen” because the tracking is way more sophisticated - your browsing habits, app usage, location data, and purchase history create such a detailed profile that it feels like they’re listening, when they’re just predicting your intrests with scary acuracy.

      I don’t know why you got down voted when what you said was 100% correct. People have had this constant fear that our phones are listening, which I totally get because of how creepy some apps behave, but if phones did have an active mic all the time and were processing or sending the voice recordings anywhere, you’d see the battery hit and it would be substantial. Repeated testing has shown they’re not listening. As you’ve pointed out, the various tracking and profile building tech and ad companies are engaging in ends up building extremely detailed and specific profiles such that they can pretty accurately predict our behavior. It’s fucked, and it sucks, but it’s a different issue than a phone listening in on you.
