From Thomas Hartwig

The first photo in which the stone owl looks “friendly” at the roof of our stable (Warendorf, 26. July).

Das erste Foto, bei dem der Steinkauz im Dach unseres Pferdestalls mal “freundlich” dreinschaut (Warendorf, 26. Juli).

  • The first photo in which the stone owl looks “friendly” at the roof of our stable

A better translation would be: “The first photo in which the stone owl from the roof of our horse stable has a ‘friendly’ face”

The translator was probably confused by the verb “dreinschauen” which (roughly) means making a certain facial expression.

Thank you. I always like when someone that understands can clear up these finer points.

I believe this was just Facebook’s built in translation, which usually seems pretty bad, especially with animal related words. This one seemed pretty short and simple, so I just grabbed that. Longer and more technical things I run through Google Translate and usually have much better luck.
