Industry group says treatments may need to be restricted to the most overweight
Demand for weight loss drugs is becoming so “unsustainable” that demand may soon outstrip supply, pharmacists have warned.
The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) said supply problems could encourage people to turn to unregulated online sources, despite the risks involved.
The drugs might need to be reserved for those in greatest need because they are so overweight instead of being given to the “worried well”, it added.
Orrrrr, we could just make more? It’s not like they are giving it away for free.
No shit. What a dumb statement to make. How horrible it must be to have even more market and profits to be made.
It’s not like this shit is made from unicorn tears. It’s synthesized in a lab. They could make more if they wanted to. But false scarcity drives up demand. And prices.
That’s a valid response in the long term, but in the immediate/near term, it’s reasonable to want to restrict a treatment to those it’ll help most.
GLP drugs were widely available up until recently — because they stopped allowing pharmacies to compound the drug.

Almost as if the US has some kind of major obesity epidemic.
Do you know what the number one health risk in America is?
Obesity. Obesity! They say we’re in the middle of an obesity epidemic.
An epidemic like it is polio. Like we’ll be telling our grand kids about it one day; The Great Obesity Epidemic of 2004.
“How’d you get through it grandpa?”
“Oh, it was horrible Johnny, there was cheesecake and pork chops everywhere.”
Nobody knows why were getting fatter? Look at our lifestyles!
I’ll sit at a drive thru.
I’ll sit there behind fifteen other cars instead of getting up to make the eight foot walk to the totally empty counter.
Everything is mega meal, super sized.
"Want biggie fries with that? Want a jumbo fry, wanna go large?
Want a biggie fry, wanna have thirty burgers for a nickel, you fat motherfucker?"
“There’s room in the bag. Take it!”
“Want a 55 gallon drum of Coke with that? It’s only three more cents.”
Another benefit of making our living spaces friendly for pedestrians and bikes instead of exclusively cars is people will get more exercise.
Like, just fucking around in Brooklyn this weekend I probably walked 4 miles.
Physical excerise and the correct calorie intake.
Hell of a drug.
