The local leather shop told me that the belt I wanted to make into a spiked watchband wasn’t what I wanted. It was exactly what I wanted, and since they disagreed, I just bought the blank belt for myself and made the thing myself.
Then I went back to show them what I wanted all along. Paid more than it should have been worth, but I have extra material to make more custom THICK watchbands, with plenty of extra spikes no less.
Like, I went to the pros, and they told me I didn’t want the exact material I pointed at? Threw my head off for a minute, but I was like fuckit, I’ll make it myself and show them.
That was last November. I’m quite pleased with what I made.
Are belts and watchbands code for some concepts related to mental health? Given the sub we are in, that is.
The question regards unwanted advice. I sought advice from ‘professionals’, yet they deterred me from exactly what I wanted.
For me, that causes me a bit of distress, when I have to show the pros how to do what the customer (myself) asked. Yet I ain’t getting paid a penny, but I could just as soon be working at their company, fulfilling other customer orders that they turn down.
Edit: I was also hoping to get a job there.

It attaches via snaps, and is not adjustable in size. I custom fit it onto my right wrist, the larger of my wrists, knowing good and well that leather shrinks a bit when it gets wet, which was the final part of the shaping and fitting process to get the perfect size for the final destination of my left wrist.
I lined the inside of it with a section of bicycle inner tube to keep my sweat from getting into the leather or from causing the spike rivets to rust.

The parts to make the wristband, leather belt, snap kit, spikes, and spare watch strap cost me about $72. Way more than I expected to pay, but I ended up having to buy in bulk, like 40 inches of blank leather belt and a pack of 100 spikes, so I have plenty of spare material left.
The watch itself was a gift, made in 2022 so fairly new, and apparently retails for about $30.
Not exactly my everyday sort of project, but indeed I do wear it every day, and it’s quite comfortable actually, though I did sacrifice the waterproof factor the moment I decided to go with leather.
I did keep the original watch strap, in case I ever decide to change out the watch itself.

While this is true, I would rather coexist with reality, even if that reality is shit. That way I can take part in change. Or at the least, know what’s coming.

One of the many reasons I quit the trades so dramatically was because I couldn’t stand all the unasked advice coming from older men.
If I wanted to be old, miserable, full of hate for my wife and children, full of hate at other people for expressing themselves, full of hate for myself and own a giant savings account full of money I can’t enjoy because my body is too broken, then sure I’ll listen to what you will say. But I don’t want that. I want to be happy with all the nothing I own.
I even went and tattooed both my arms full just to signal that I am dedicated to my mistakes. I’d rather be broke and myself than to live the shallow, object filled existence that they want to live. Where these old miserable men see mistakes, I see experiences and the chance to learn.
Fuck 'em.

Is it wrong to ask what are you carrying? Yesterday I asked my sister (17) what are you feeling and I got nothing. she gives short answers or shuts down if you even ask her if she wants lunch since she was like 12 So no surprise but we cant do this forever.
