Anything new you’re picking up? Any playthroughs you’re finishing?

I got nothing right now, guys. Been busy playing Disco Elysium this past month or so and now I’m moving on to Planescape Torment and other PC games. Nothing souls-related, tho.

What about you?

Distro hopping. I have installed 4 distros in the last 24 hours. I am going insane but I cannot stop. I am typing this as a new OS is being downloaded.

This is pretty much how I feel while playing souls games. Beating my head against a wall, trying new things and failing each time. Eventually, I will find my dream distro.

Tried loads of them, liked a few, disliked a lot.

      Manjaro… never again.

Probably the best I have tried so far:

      • CachyOS (currently installed)
      • Nobara
      • Bazzite

Responsiveness. This is relevant to me because I have older hardware. PopOS was a hard no for me because even its installer was laggy on my system. Once installed, it was okay but worse than others.

App compatibility. I know that all distros can run anything but the ease of it is different. For example, Lutris did not open successfully in Debian but it opened easily with all others.

Flatpak support. Again, all distros are compatible but for some reason Debian gives error while downloading Cisco packages. I have never seen it with anything else.

App Store. It is a good idea if there is ability to browse system as well as flatpak packages in a store. This is not an absolute necessity but nice to have.

Desktop environment. This is probably the most subjective and irrational criteria. Some distros just click, like Mint Cinnamon. And some others just don’t, like Gnome. I can install any DE on any distro but I prefer the out of the box versions.

Popularity. This is very counter intuitive since distro choice is personal but I am not a techie who can verify code on my own. So it is best if an existing community does it for me.

Get a good thumb drive, install Ventoy on it, then load it up with different linux distros.

Ventoy is a tool that makes bootable thumb drives that support as many different images/isos as you can fit on the drive. When you boot to a Ventoy thumb drive, you’ll get a GUI that you lets you select which image you want to boot from.

This makes it simple to quickly test or install a bunch of different distros. Better yet, any distro with “live image” support can be run right off the thumb drive without needing to install it first.

Nah, i was asking by what rules the topic starter estimate and compare different distros. I’m fine with my Arch and don’t want to change it

I’m doing this as we speak! I just finished refreshing myself on Mint (which was a disaster), openSUSE, and CachyOS. PikaOS is currently installing. Something tells me I’m going back to Fedora once I’m done, but distro hopping is a lot of fun.

I hate it because I end up back at Mint. This time I have settled on CachyOS. I am going to give it time to fuck up.

Probably some more Nightreign (if that counts), possibly continuing my very slow NG+ run of Elden Ring.

Considering picking up Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, but haven’t decided and might just wait for a sale on that.

Not a fan of the genre, Bloodborne killed it for me. But my brother has coerced me into trying Elden Ring so I picked that up in the steam sale, and we will see.

Have previously tried Nioh, BB, lords of the fallen, just can’t get the combat, but I am old so that could be a contributing factor

You might be best going back to Dark Souls Remastered. The gameplay is slower and more deliberate. A lot of the newer ones, Bloodborne included, require much better reflexes and reaction times. As much as I love the genre, I feel like I’m rapidly aging out of it as they get more and more like fighting games in their demands.

Enjoyed my time with the game a lot, went 1½ playthroughs and wanted to get back to it with Khazana’s addition but went on to the Lies of P DLC instead. Almost went for a platinum but I wanted to move on from it because I played it so much :D (like 70-80h)

The Surge 2. Really liked the first game, and the second one is even better so far. Gotta love that juicy, crunchy combat. Also has some fun arcade-like elements to it I enjoy.

I set up steam family share with a friend recently. He really just wanted the fromsoft catalog I have (like all of them; ds (1,2,&3), sekiro, armored core 6, and he already had elden ring which what got him into the souls genre in the first place) plus I got a decade plus of humble bundles. (Literally just hit 666 games a year ago, but fucked it up cause I wanted Hades during the summer sale)

I wasn’t expecting anything in return cause of my obvious backlog. But he told he he bought avowed and I should check it out. It didn’t hold me. But I got bored yesterday and started to check what was newly certified for the steam deck. I noticed I had the dead space remake, but I never bought it. It said it was a family member’s. So I kept looking. I have all the new games available cause I guess all the family members get pooled?

I’m talking the new oblivion remaster, monster Hunter rise, cyberpunk phantom Liberty, and so much more! Including… Wait for it… Lords of the fallen! I started downloading it like a half hour ago. I’m very excited! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

I played and finished Unsouled last week. Not too much to say about it other than it was short, pretty fun, and I liked the pixel art style. Wish it was longer or maybe had a DLC expansion. They were really cooking with the boss fights.

Currently I’m playing Voids Vigil. Not a souls-like, but a bullet hell roguelike. There’s a weapon called “Moonlit Greatsword”, so I know the dev has good taste. I’m kind of obsessed and decided to go for 100% (there are 221 achievements).
