yes my nerd anger is also directed at them, and all the other language schools that are named after the tower of babel
i was assigned Ancient Egypt pretty early on, i made my mum read to me things like the process of mummification for bedtime stories
i needed to get the whole internal monologue out first
i think there are at least two things at play here
-
can i do something about this?
-
does it affect me?
if the answer is “no” to both then focusing on that just brings misery about some bad thing happening somewhere, not the best idea mental health wise. if the answer is “yes” to both then you’ll see plenty of action.
if we have yes for change, but no for being affected then it’s up for the good heart (and time and money) of any individual to make a choice to help. and if we have no can’t change, but yes it affects me, then we have depression.
NSFW bans affect everyone using the internet, and they’re created purely on moral grounds, so your voice is just as loud as every other voice. if enough people complain, maybe it won’t change anyone’s opinion, but the likelihood that those in charge just give in goes up, it boils down to which side complains louder pretty much
wars, misery, mistreatment, hate, bigotry, clearly have gone well past the “let’s sit down and talk about if this is the best way forward for us, and if you disagree with the majority opinion we will be very annoying”, there’s just– not much even combined voices of millions can do here, as evident by the world around us
so in my conclusion - people are more likely to fight when they have some reasonable chance to win said fight. we have in the past successfully made companies undo things we didn’t like, we complained, and we got what we wanted. but how many wars have we stopped this way?

yes but we could have both! logic and creative license. take the same two panels, but instead the first one has the tower being built, and the second one shows Duo as the leading architect smiling mischievously
but the tower’s destruction doesn’t bring him any closer to that goal, it’s an entirely unnecessary step. the tower only needed to be built to split languages.
besides the tower looks finished (iirc it was never finished, becuase of the whole langauge thing), and the people are upset that i’s being destroyed which- none of it makes sense.
why would they be upset that the tower that made god mad at them and split their speech so they couldn’t communicate is being destroyed?
why would duo be behind it? he profits from teaching languages, his work depends on there being more than one of them
if duo is destroying the tower then the comic does not make sense within the lore of the bible. it’s as if the author of the comic only half remembered that there was some tower that has something to do with languages
sorry for the long comment, i get unreasonably involved in logical inconsistencies in media
huh? not to be all well actually on an internet meme but the building of the tower of Babel is biblically what caused the languages to split. the hubris of people who thought they could reach god made him decide to punish humanity by confusing their speech. duo profits from people learning languages, so he’d need to be some sort of agent of evil that inspired that hubris in people
why would he blow it up? unless the author of the comic implies that duo just doesn’t like working and now this green owl has been chosen by god to mend humanity’s speech and he’s angry enough about it to destroy the tower that caused the split? am i reading too much into those two panels? yes

shneancy@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Avatar (the one with the blue aliens) is such a weird franchise632·3 days agoi feel like the feeling of them coming “out of nowhere” and “disappearing” is created by how little cultural impact those movies managed to create. like give me a single quote, anything memorable from the story itself. we all remember it is a beautiful film to watch, but the plot might as well be a theme park ride around an alien world
nobody talks about it, there is nothing to talk about

what on earth is happening to the internet these days? absolute insanity
social media is shit and i get restricting twitter or tiktok, but youtube? it seems so bizarre to me
when i was in middle school we got an assignment in my English class (second language), something like “write about a day that isn’t yours”, it was supposed to be short, maybe half a page, a little story about your brother’s day, or maybe a day how you imagined your favourite actor to live. the teacher was cool and english was just starting to click for me, so i felt– the urge… i handed in 6 pages of a handwritten post-apocalyptic short story, detailing hour by hour the last day of someone living alone in a bunker and losing sanity as they begin to hear knocking at the door
thankfully i didn’t get penalised for being 5,5 pages over the limit :D

to be fair, we don’t know why anything is, but that’s something for philosophy so ponder, not science where you seek answers
butbutbut… i do actually like Wes Anderson T-T, they scratch my brain the right way
they all reacted well, even the most hipster one. they must’ve matured a lot since uni days :)
dang, i wish they did that for my adhd diagnosis, because i kept looking normal on my tests and had to go on a manhunt to find a doctor who has adhd as well, so they could just vibe check me (and i did, but before that i spent a lot of money on futile tests)
there’s a yearly membership fee
as someone who qualifies for mensa but like, i ain’t paying a subscription fee to be in the smart people club, that sounds really dumb (and also IQ testing is sketchy at best to begin with)
yes, i always appreciate a big booty, on any ethnicity or gender, so latinas are indeed included
somehow my brain did a flip and i did the same but with nordic runes (elder futhark to be exact). now i’m catching up and trying to learn some ancient egyptian in my free time
