As for learning languages, I find that a combination of structured lessons (from an instructor or recommended course book) with speaking practice (with someone you know or through a language exchange program) works best. Other things that help are watching films or series in your target language, listening to music and translating the text.

Perhaps it’s time for a large treat.
The right people will recognize and appreciate your efforts. Of course there are those that will try to take advantage of you, so you need to either learn to say “no” or pace your work to appear busy when they ask for more.
If I continue to be nice and work hard, it’s because I hold myself to certain standards and won’t let ungrateful people worsen me.
It’s one of the reasons I’m listening to music so often, and even that doesn’t help sometimes. It affects my sleep too :(
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are there any AI services that don't work on stolen data?5·5 days agoSome machine learning models are trained on what’s called synthetic data, which is generated specifically for that purpose and mimics real-world data. What I don’t know is how much of the data used is synthetic vs. stolen.
If you feel highly confident that you don’t want children now or in the future, that is reason enough to have a vasectomy. You have the option of freezing your sperm too in case you have doubts but still want to go through with the procedure now.

I learned to cook a lot of new different things simply because I wanted foods that are extremely uncommon where I live.
I hope you find your perfect pumpernickel!
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Back in my day this MF was .29 cents and was THICK with INGREDIENTS8·6 days agoIt must be so nice to have a variety of high quality breads to choose from. Authentic whole grain and rye breads are hard to find in my country. I’m sure Americans have access to different types of artisan breads, but the type used in fast food seems horribly over-processed and sugary.
Even with good bread, I like to be able to taste all the ingredients in the sandwich. Higher ingredient-to-bread ratios.
What if the background noise is in fact a series of overlapping, never-ending streams of thoughts in your own head?
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Back in my day this MF was .29 cents and was THICK with INGREDIENTS3·6 days agoHaha, I love how enthusiastic and forgiving OP is when it comes to these things. I’ve never had one, but higher prices and less ingredients/filling seems to be an unfortunate trend everywhere. Most sandwiches I see lately are 90% bread.
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do air source heat pumps use a lot of electricity when cooling?1·6 days agoHeat pumps first extract heat from the outside air before moving it indoors (I don’t know the exact mechanics of it). The colder it is outside, the more energy is needed to do this. When it’s cooling, it only moves the heat from inside to outside.
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do air source heat pumps use a lot of electricity when cooling?43·6 days agoThey’re great, aren’t they?
Heat pumps normally use more electricity to heat than to cool, so it’s surprising that the opposite was happening for you.
My bills have always been lower in the summer. The only time the bills have been unusually high was when there was a problem with the connection between the main electrical supply and the pump, causing it to keep restarting and use more energy.
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Given the recent payment controversy, I have an interesting question. Why are people so interested in porn and NSFW stuff?27·6 days agoWanting sex is a normal and human desire, and NSFW content is just an expression of that, but without any of the effort or risk of rejection needed to get a sexual partner in real life. Some people like to imagine themselves or their ideal partners in the scenes they view. Some have specific kinks or preferences that are harder to find, thus the need to pay for it. Some have parasocial relationships with the creators.
As for the “nothing new” part, well, you’ve probably eaten your favorite foods hundreds of times in your lifetime without getting tired of them :)
razorcandy@discuss.tchncs.deto vegan@lemmy.world•What are some of your "oh my god it's 10 at night and I forgot to eat dinner" recipes?English6·7 days agoHuh, that actually sounds like an interesting mix.
I eat dinner very early and almost always have leftovers in the fridge or stock ingredients I use often. A few things I would eat if I was in a hurry:
- Pasta with pesto or a quick sauce of cooking cream, nutritional yeast, and sautéed garlic and dried tomatoes.
- Raw carrots, cucumbers, or pepper strips with hummus
- Rice with tofu in a soy/maple syrup sauce, similar to teriyaki
- Rice and beans
- If I have avocados that are ripe, I’ll slice them over bread I put in the oven for a few minutes.
Finely ground?
