I will never understand why businesses want to let someone else control their infrastructure. Putting your money-maker in someone else’s hands is just telling them that it’s OK to give you the squeeze later.

It will never cease to amaze me when these people blame the voters, instead of blaming the people with the power, the platform, and the money for where we are today.
Buddhism has entered the chat!
Learning to sit still, in the quiet, and just being has been one of the biggest improvements to my mental health.
Of course, a bigger improvement to my mental health would be if we had an economy that worked for the people rather than for the rich…
Seems like the same thing in Gaza. As soon as we started seeing bodies, the tone started changing. There’s a reason that the nightly news in the US doesn’t show the cruel results of our wars.
The first one was enjoyable. A good game to play while listening to a podcast
This was an issue when I went to school in the early aughts. The sad part, is that is was generally better than the crap that the school served. I’m not happy about them poisoning our kids, but it wasn’t like the school system was doing much better on it’s own.
It worked out just like we warned them it would. Maybe next time, the Democrats should listen to their voter-base.

Yes, it is
As opposed to the Democratic leaders who chose Genocide over winning an easy election? The same leaders who were brilliantly telling voters to sit down and shut up, who made everything so much better, and doubtless learned a lot?
I loved Perfume. The movie is a lot of fun as well.
Totally. If it had been described it to me, I’d have probably passed on it. But a friend of mine highly recommended it, and I’m glad that I listened. It’s more interesting than it sounds, and its such a quick, enjoyable read.
People demonstrably vote, including leftists. I also never said that not voting is going to move politicians to the left.

Huh, weird. I haven’t dated in a looooong time, so I cant say if anything would be off about that.
That used to fail pretty frequently for me. It wasn’t the worst bug, but it was pretty annoying.
I’ve always tried to phrase it as “What do you do?”, skipping the “for a living” part. That opens it up to more than just work. It could be “What do you do for a hobby?”, or “What do you do for fun?”, or “What do you do in your free time?”, etc.
Sure, it’s not the best conversation starter, but when I know nothing about someone, it’s a good way to get the ball rolling.
Totally. I remember this happening back when everyone was using forums. This is a “Social Media” problem, not just a Lemmy problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but it’s been around longer than votes have been a thing.
Last book: This is How You Lose the Time War - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_How_You_Lose_the_Time_War
It was good. I don’t normally like love-stories, but this was poetically written. A lot of fun sci-fi and beautiful imagery.
Current book: Little Brother - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Brother_(Doctorow_novel)
Lots of fun hacking and rebellion against an increasingly authoritarian government, very much inspired by 9-11. It’s a fun Young Adult Novel so far.

And the people I work with still can’t understand why so many of us hate meetings.
