As an Ontarian, what can I do about this?
Seriously? Do I need to drive to Alberta with a rolled up newspaper and thwack Danielle Smith on the back of the head like my grandfather did to me when I was being a dumbass?

Superman is an illegal alien.
If my taxes aren’t even paying for shit like schools why am I paying them?
One thing I hate about AI art is the obvious influence of a lot of anime in body proportions
I agree, but people have been heavily misusing it since like 2018
I built one of these for my cat
She’s old and got arthritis, but she’s been getting treatments and is climbing on things again, which warms my hearts to see.
I try not to get facts from LLMs ever
I do use RAG and tools to push content into them for summarization/knowledge extraction.
But even then it’s important to have an idea of your model biases. If you train a model that X isn’t true, then ask it to find info on the topic it’s going to return crap results.
And that over hiring means there are now a glut of experienced people desperate for jobs competing with inexperienced new grads.
I don’t chalk this up fully to AI.
The other aspect is hiring is a crapshoot right now, for the last 4 or so years almost all hiring I’ve seen has been from referrals, not resumes submitted.
I’ve been interviewing for a decade, the quality of candidates from even large corps like Google and Apple has turned to shit in the last 3/4 years. I’m talking candidates who can’t demonstrate basic coding skill in interviews but somehow worked at these companies for years and have advanced degrees.
I attribute that to mass over hiring too, where you would look at a resume and say “we can grow that person” but then clearly nobody bothered to teach them after they started.
When we started calling literal linear regression models AI it lost all value.
I asked this what it thought of the US governments pivot on trans rights and it similarly did not believe the last 7 months could have happened.
I had to get it to read the Wikipedia article on the year 2025 and it actually decided to stop reading.
ETA: to clarify, it was using a fetch tool to read the page, and decided to stop reading more chunks of the page.
I hope you brought enough to share with the rest of us
In want Canada to drop the kind of funding the US is currently pouring into tech.
We won’t win as long as we keep sucking the teat of Microsoft or Google for all of our services.
We have no data sovereignty rights even in Canadian hosted data centres for them.
And so now they have to train their models to acknowledge there are only two genders and deny anything “woke”
We’ll see if that affects the public models.
No.
You don’t get to suspend civil rights to remove fucking bike lanes.
I haven’t gotten out and protested Ford yet, but I swear to God this is so fucking frivolous and trivial, especially when he DIDN’T do this fro the trucker protests.
Just fucking no.
For me it is
I have a lot of difficulty deciding what to draw when I’m depressed.
You should make a backlog of inspiration or studies you want to draw when you feel good, and then when your depressed you force yourself to draw the next one in the list.
As for what you need decide your budget first, $50 will get a good quality sketchbook and good pencils, and a set of erasers (gummy, white, firm). I don’t do colour pencils but they are more expensive, goes back to budget.
Don’t worry too much about the right brands or anything like that, just buy paper that has ring bindings (easier to lay flat) and feels nice to touch, with a bit of texture to help control smudging.
If you go marjers or water colours or inks, then paper matters more.
If you don’t know what to draw, draw shapes and squiggles and practice your hatching and shading techniques.
Stop it! Stahhhpp!
Sounds like a good group.
The older I get the more often conversation with friends veers into discussing pooping yourselves. It’s very weird.
My only story there was I was on a work trip and we went to a Thai place. We ordered everything very very hot, the food was amazing, but the next day my stomach was a wreck!
That was the day I finally broke out the extra underwear I pack on trips and I tossed the old ones in the trash in shame.
Thank god I booked an extra day to sightsee.
For me the decentralization means we can always take our party somewhere else if it gets enshittified.
Invite only instances are probably going to have to become a thing soon. Like how 99% of Reddit doesn’t let you comment with a new account until you look less like spam.
But at least here you will always be able to join/start a server to host your account.
I really do not want to live in the world after something like that happens.
I can just see the Patriot Act like mass erosion of civil rights.
Can we maintain them weight shipping them to a foreign country?
No? Then don’t buy them.
As the last year has shown we cannot rely on the US being our partner when it inconveniences them or they feel they can extort us.
