  • Yeah, I think this is what they mean. It is a form of poor bashing: poor people don’t invest their money to create jobs, grow the economy, etc. I have a friend who is very susceptible to this type of right-wing propaganda, and i had to point out that rich people can only invest a large portion of their income because their basic needs are (abundantly) met.

  • Yes. My son has a genetic disorder and receives care from my country’s socialized medical system. Donald Trump has threatened to annex my country. I would not be able to afford the treatments that keep my son alive under Trump. I boycott American goods like my child’s life depends on it. People need to understand that Trump’s threats towards the USA’s former allies imply deadly consequences. Fuck Trump, fuck maga, and fuck anyone who supports them by buying their shitty goods. Unless you have absolutely no choice, don’t buy American.

  • My experience is pretty limited and I might just be lucky in that everything worked for me, but installing linux was exactly as hard as installing windows. If anything, I found it less annoying because with Windows I tend to decline a lot of their services (no cloud, no office, etc) and I profoundly resent being nagged by MS to use services that don’t interest me.

If I bought my laptop with linux preinstalled, I wouldn’t say that it has been less usable than a windows machine. there is some missing support, but I had similar issues with switching from mac to windows and back.

  • I threw a party like this in about 1995. I got lucky because a lot of people showed up but they were respectful and didn’t trash my house. I cleaned up in about 2 hours.

I think that one of the things that killed this were the examples on the news of people having their houses destroyed as the party got out of hand.

Another thing that killed these parties was litigious parents. Underage drinking was the norm at these things. Kids would sometimes drive drunk and get in accidents, drown in the pool, etc. Parents of the drunk drivers would sue the parents of the party host for allowing kids to get drunk on their premises. Saying you were out of town and didn’t know did not save the sued parents - they would just be blamed for leaving their kids unsupervised.

Bush parties were also really common in the 90s, but fewer and fewer people live near a large woodlot. In the 90s, even medium cities would have vacant lots scattered throughout the city and many were large enough to (temporarily) conceal a small bonfire and 2 dozen drunk kids. When the cops showed up, we would scatter. Stumbling around the woods in the dark while intoxicated is a cherished memory, but I would probably never do it again, haha.

  • I know that the war has high support in Israel, but even 80% is still not all Israelis, let alone all jewish people. I think a lot of Israeli people have dual citizenship. Personally, I wouldn’t want to live in a country that is committing a genocide - I would leave. At least some people who choose to live in Israel are ok with illegal settlements, bombing children, etc. They self-selected and that is why they are there - some even left the countries where they were born to become settlers. Jewish people are not all the same.

75M Americans voted for a fascist piece of shit in their last election. Would it be weird if I held a grudge against white Christians in Norway because of that fact?
