OTOH (I was just reading the other day), cats can’t even see red (looks grey to them) … only green and blue. Looks as though higher-freq visible light worked just fine for Feliformia. The organs/antennae needed to send and/or receive RF would be highly ungainly for speedy smaller predatory mammals.
Who knows - maybe some of the dinosaurs -did- use RF?! High EMF from solar CME’s might have burned out their receptors.

It’s that stupid.

What kinds of topics would you include?English31·6 days ago- Your phone is the least private device you own. Every app you add makes it worse.
- Don’t use that bank plastic any more than you have to. Cash has built-in privacy. And -never- let it out of your hands.
- Unless it’s legally required, -never- write or ‘give’ ‘your’ SS number.
- None of these numbers we just have to remember are ‘ours’. Do cows own ‘their’ ear-tags? They just oil the machinery.
- Before you get rid of that hard drive, open it up and rip out the internal wiring. Then drive a couple of nails through the platters.

RF is pretty low on the EM totem pole when it comes to energy. There’s plenty of IR to use, which is just above RF… and it’s available 24/7.
Yeah, I’m not paying a whole lot of credence to the cosmology department these days, they’re too busy using Elmer’s Glue to keep their whole story from falling apart.
I’m not so sure about the whole ‘photon’ thing anymore either … an individual, no-mass, single-point thing that can survive travelling through that universe out there for -billions of years- ? The math works, but does the model, really?
Right on about the life thing too.

World War 1 was about to begin, and France and Germany still had businesses there.
In December, 2014, NYC banker Roger Leslie Farnham had US marines remove 24,000 ounces of Haiti’s gold (worth $500,000 at the time), put it on the USS Machias and taken to the vaults of the National City Bank of New York (later Citibank) where he was a vice-president. The Haitians were pissed, but Farnham said he did it to protect American interests.

US troops will occupy Haiti from July 1915 to 1934. By June, 1920 Farnham presents himself as president of the unbuilt National Railway of Haiti and ‘chief spokesman for American business in Haiti’.

If so, is this a fundamental problem or just an annoyance?English5·9 days agoA more thoughtful way to do it would be if the user were able to delete any contributions they’d made to the discussion (while the title and links persist). This should be the default. NO contribution would ever be removed except by the creator (or by the mods, if warranted according to ze rools.)
kalkulat@lemmy.worldto Firefox@lemmy.ml•As a distro hopping Firefox enjoyer, is it possible to install and configure Firefox extensions through the command line after a fresh install?English5·9 days agoI install and use FF from my home folder. As a result, I can simply copy my ‘old’ firefox folder and .mozilla folder (containing the FF config files) into the new distro’s home. That way all of the features, settings, and extensions remain the same, regardless of the distro I’ve moved to.
Inside the .mozilla/Firefox/ folder you’ll find separate folders for your profiles. The ‘about:profiles’ window lets you switch between them.If you want to experiment with one, make an archive of its folder. If you try something that doesn’t work out, you can throw the messed-up profile away and extract a fresh copy from your archive, all’s well. There are also many files INSIDE that profile folder you can toy with. Many, many options in this setup.

Agreed. Good question! Were the 5x-lifesize ones trying to compensate? Beyond my pay-grade! Haven’t ever seen one, and haven’t seen much actual data on these figures. (Maybe Zawi’s got that cornered!)
IMO the title I used better reflected the author’s primary message … in his own words. It was TheGuardian which mis-directed it. Lemmy chose to run that blurb, I have no control over that (and when it does so, it’s often discouraging).
‘Self-termination’ was a stupid choice. I didn’t get a chance to see that or modify it when I clicked on ‘Preview’. Lemmy would be better if it would offer that choice and allow the poster to reject it. It’s rather authoritarian that way.
