janonymous@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which games made you go into an "addiction phase"?191·5 days agoI think most here are too generous with the term addiction.
I had to uninstall Hearthstone years ago, because I compulsively played it multiple hours every single day, despite not really having fun playing it anymore. It was either grinding to get cards or tilting on ladder. That’s what I would call an addiction.
Edit: After Hearthstone I played a lot of Slay the Spire and after that Marvel Snap. Never more then I enjoyed it, so I wouldn’t count those.
I feel like the compulsive thief is missing
janonymous@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you reconcile staying sane while keeping yourself up-to-date with the news?6·10 days agoI listen to one weekly news podcast (Lage der Nation), that focuses on the most important topics for where I live, which includes big international events.
Getting an update on the relevant happenings once a week, feels way healthier than reading what’s going horribly wrong somewhere multiple times a day.
I had to unfollow and unsubscribe a bit on mastodon and Lemmy to reduce the amount of news I see there, but now it’s tolerable.
However, I still have to take breaks, when I feel my mental health isn’t up for it.
janonymous@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Age verification and the enshitification of streaming will help reduce the decline in computer literacy in under 18s13·12 days agoI doubt that. As long as social media algorithms can capture the attention of children, most won’t bother with learning more about computers.
The reason previous generations did, was because there weren’t so many ways to distract yourself. To play games on the first computer I had access to I had to use DOS. There was no way around it. Now people don’t, so they won’t.

janonymous@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How does an average looking guy cold approach a woman?11·15 days agoI have several friends that are married to people they met in World of Warcraft. You don’t need to go out to connect with people anymore.
Clean your room!
janonymous@lemmy.worldOPto Videos@lemmy.world•You Are Witnessing the Death of American Capitalism (Benn Jordan)2·17 days agoAbsolutely! I feel like they actually have the opposite effect here in Lemmy. People seem to read the click bait title and just down vote without engaging at all. I might need to start tweaking the titles when I post them here.
Now you buy it and try it yourself, if you’re interested. You can return the game if it’s not too your liking after the first hour of play.
What? Ignoring that screwdrivers where invented after the hammer, what exactly should this tell me about AI?
It’s an old WW1 or WW2 story. They were constantly trying to improve their planes and thus analyzed the returning planes to figure out where they needed more protection. However, as the story goes, they did not account for the fact that the bullet holes where only in non-critical spots, because the planes that got hit on critical spots did not come back.
There are people with imposter syndrome, who you wish would say more and then there are people with overinflated self confidence, who just won’t shut up.
The viewers aren’t the game masters, though. I honestly wouldn’t want to participate in a game where I have to retain the attention of people without giving them anything of value. I think at some point those who participate also need to take some responsibility.

Isn’t it just generally “edgy” humor with an IT/nerd slant? Meaning they straddle the line between dog whistle racism and mysogeny and going full mask off.
That reminds me: 9gag

Also love the language, really makes me want to participate more in this community!

Searched for a while, then decided I’m going to get a replacement. I seldom drive, anyway. Never got around to it until 4 years later I got a letter that it was found. Saved 70€ doing nothing!
