A modern laptop would probably outperform it for 1/20th the power. We had some of these at work and they’re DIRE. Outside of purely fucking around there’s nothing it’s good for.

Disk caching is almost never included in the ram usage numbers. Or if it is it’s specified as caching, but still not factored into the number.

The fresh install of Manjaro KDE on my laptop is using 2.6gb on a fresh boot right out of the box.

I forget what distro it was (maybe neon?) that was using like 3.X gigs of ram on a fresh install. That was the point that I realized this wasn’t the Linux of old.

Linux aint perfect either. Look at the memory usage of most modern “fully featured” distros. They’re using damn near as much at idle as windows is. Same thing going back 10 years in time.

The key is with windows you get one windows, and maybe some tweaks. With linux you could go with a hyper minimal DE with not much in the way of shiny features and go a whole lot further.

Probably on the upper end, like an 8 or 9. I currently own more computers than most people will probably ever own in their life.

Probably not. Finding work is the biggest problem. If you don’t want to drive around and talk to people then how are you going to get any work? You could maybe do web work online, but you still need to get started somewhere, and that means going out and talking to people.

Now if you happen to be somewhere and you overhear someone talking about how they wish they had X or Y and you know how to do that you could start talking to them. But like cold calling people about making a website? Probably not something you’d want to do.

Also microwaves are only 2.4ghz. Any modern device should have a strong 5ghz connection in what I assume is a cramped apartment.

5ghz also has less interference problems, but it’s not immune.

See, that’s mostly what I was thinking. “Zebra stripes” make pedestrians feel safe to cross, and have virtually no impact on drivers who can easily just ignore them. But paired with other things they are a good addition, especially since it tells pedestrians where to cross.

Yes, but it’s incredibly slow, wasteful and, unsafe. Companies have tried making hardware that does this at a room level, but have largely failed because it’s so wasteful and slow.

Any time I see an intersection I assume there might be people. Downtown where I’m at there’s rarely crosswalks at intersections unless it’s a major through road.

The biggest problem is for new users. Once the dust has settled and Wayland is the default for everything (and there’s plenty of searchable threads for how to fix X problem) then it will be great. But currently if you’re a noob and you install a distro you don’t know what either is. If you have this problem do you fix it with X or Y? Choice is great for enthusiasts, but just another hurdle for new users.

Does painting a crosswalk really increase safety? I feel like the type of person not pay attention and run someone over is the type of person to not care if there’s a crosswalk, not pay attention, and run someone over.
