TBF, most Texans I know, especially those that live in rural areas far from airports, just drive to their vacation destinations. Many of them have Ford F350s, basically houses on wheels. The only time they fly anywhere is usually to a beach resort where they can’t take their massive trucks.

Videos@lemmy.world•Aerial footage shows aftermath of massive train derailment (35 cars) in Texas
2·3 months agoNo worries, I just know because I used to pass it on my way into DFW occasionally. A train derailment east of Fort Worth likely would have made the front page of most news orgs. Gordon is still relatively rural.

Linux@lemmy.world•Preventing e-waste by selling old desktops with Linux due to low system requirementsEnglish
3·3 months agoOh totally! It took 5x longer to install than endeavorOS and Arch combined. It was really more of a test. I was just surprised that it ran at all on such low allocated resources given how inefficient it is! Especially since it wouldn’t pass the system requirements they allegedly require to upgrade from win10. I guess the point I’m driving home is, if you really HAVE to use windows, there are janky, hoop-jumping workarounds. It’s all getting wiped anyways. I’ll probably load LM or an Arch flavor for more fun tests later. It’ll end up as ewaste in a couple years anyway. The onboard vent fans are dying.

211·3 months agoI was able to get Windows 11 to run on a 10 year old laptop through Proxmox. With 3 other Linux OSs running at the same time. With almost no issues. The Win11 system requirements are made up. It’s a way to sell more computers, that’s it. Line go up is all it is.
Ah yes, Santa’s North Pole. I’m told it is little changed in the 30 years since I first went as my sister took her son there recently. They still hand out potato sacks on the metal slide. They might even be the same sacks since opening the park!

I was honestly surprised to see a Texas store selling ice augers. Especially when you have to explicitly differentiate the type of skiing you do when you bring that up in casual conversation. Skiing in Texas, for example, mainly involves boats…
