Thank you, this ruined my childhood in several ways as someone who grew up with culturally engrained Kalle Anka (Donald Duck) watchings.

ZC3rr0r@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump boosts tariffs on Canada to 35%, carrying through on his threat16·3 days agoThat would be far to accurate for the GOP base to understand. In fact, Trump himself doesn’t seem to understand this either.
ZC3rr0r@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump boosts tariffs on Canada to 35%, carrying through on his threat80·3 days agoThis was, and continues to be, never about fentanyl.
Trump wants to feel like a powerful leader so instead of taking on actual substantial threats to the US economy he bullies his smaller allies, like the weakling he is.
We can’t transition trade away from that failed state south of us quickly enough. And, as with many of Trump’s shortsighted “bull in a China shop” decisions, this will only serve to motivate us to do so quicker while also detrimentally affecting the US’ own long-term trade prospects.
ZC3rr0r@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•United States escalates trade war with Canada following Palestine stance10·3 days agoAnd here we see why bending the knee to a sociopath like Trump never works. They will only experience validation for their previous bullying, and keep escalating regardless of whether they “won” or not.
I sincerely hope Carney tells Trump to stuff it and come back once he figured out trade agreements are relationships - they are supposed to provide mutual benefit to the parties involved.
Or, even more basically - tell him to first figure out what he really wants to achieve before making demands, because even that seems a cognitively impossible ask of the current US administration (see: https://www.reuters.com/business/japan-voice-concern-over-us-trade-deal-inconsistency-pm-ishiba-says-2025-04-21/).
Fine, I’ll concede that on a new outlet type B has a decent grip on the plug. Sadly, the majority of outlets I’ve interacted with over the years are worn to the point of being just as bad. Plus, the fact that you can have an appliance plugged in and working with part of the prongs exposed is just a safety issue that should’ve been fixed decades ago.
But okay, I suppose that goes for type A as well on top of it being an inferior design so I’ll retract my statement.

Thanks for putting into perspective just how fucked the current situation in the US is.

What I was getting at is that fomestication tends to explode a specie’s numbers, which is generally to the detriment of the ecosystem’s balance. Regardless of them already being native of not.
Imagine boosting the number of eastern brown snakes (assuming you are Australian this would be a good example of a native predator) by a factor 5-10x. All hell would break loose, same as increasing the fox population in most countries they are native to, given how people would likely be inclined to treat them like cats and let them roam even when domestic.

Who could’ve guessed an expansionist regime would break a truce with the intent to continue their territorial expansion. This must be the first time in recorded history this has happened. /s
Counterpoint: I lived in Sweden and I miss that winter’s gloom. Sure, it’s dark before the snow falls but it gives you something to look forward to.
Sounds like Canada anywhere not near the ocean. I’m in that same boat, and I’ll happily trade the stupidly hot summers for two extra months of winter.
I miss the moderate summers of Scandinavia in that regard. Sure, it rained a lot, but at least you could go outside without roasting to a crisp in minutes during summer.
It’s both a shame and a good thing domesticated foxes are so rare, because on the one hand they are too cute and so pretty, but on the other hand I’d argue were better of not domesticating another species into a class of ecosystem threats (looking at domestic cats…)
So very true. Dressing for cold is so much easier than heat it’s mindboggling to read some of these summer fan comments. Like, do you guys actually live on the same planet as I do? Cause this one sucks the minute temperatures go past 20c.
Thank you for perfectly describing just about all the reasons I would skip summer altogether if I could.
The one missing complaint from my end is that you can’t do anything outside or in a non-AC building without instantly sweating like you took a shower with your clothes on.
And don’t get me started on everything being on fire. The only thing worse than regular summer is a summer where you can’t see the skies for several month’s due to the smoke and you have to worry about your house burning down all the damn time.
Couldn’t agree more with the OOP.

And that’s why I am in favour of abolishing the Nobel peace prize. It’s a clearly politically charged award that rewards an individual’s or group’s actions during a particular snapshot in time, which they then get to have as their accolades for the rest of their lives.
And yes, you could make that argument for every Nobel prize, but unlike rewarding peace efforts that the nominee could undermine or even undo the next day after receiving the award, you can’t un-invent a scientific breakthrough.
