I do understand it’s the entire point.

It’s also super annoying when English-speaker make new “languages” which are just English with each word substituted by another. The joke assumes that Latin is just a dialect of English.

So, what I’m trying to hint in a subtle manner between the lines is that the joke is not among the best ones out there. Of course you can go to some meta levels and find something funny about someone being so stupid that they assume that words have 100 % equal meanings across languages. But, meh.

I like GNOME because it’s got everything I need and nothing else. I’ve got ADHD, so any distractions are really a problem.

With KDE I have the feeling that it’s kind of “full”. I have always been able to customize Gnome in whatever way I’ve needed, but that’s less in-your-face than in KDE.
It’s also a matter of what I’ve gotten used to. I started using desktop Linux with Redhat 5.2, and that came with Gnome. So, I got used to it, and KDE is different. And of course, KDE might have changed in the last 10-ish years, which, I think, is how long time ago I touched a KDE desktop at all.
But, since I’m happy with GNOME – and, this might sound scary – actually even happier with Unity that I’m using now, I don’t really have any need to venture to try anything else.

It works for me and switching to something else would require at least some amount of effort.
I’m already being less active with my children than I would like to, so I don’t like putting any effort into things that won’t really bring something useful for me or others. I prefer spending that effort for being a better father :)

Oh boy, wait until you here about the record of liberal regimes when it comes to guaranteeing these rights…

Just read the other headlines. They are very typical content for publications made by Russian troll farms.

And probably not true. The site the article is from has the style used by Russian troll farms. The article is most likely 95% fabricated, with a kernel of truth, such as maybe one MP in the parliament having suggested that.

Also, the Russia. They have done a good job inciting hatered between the users of violence, making sure there will never be peace.

There is no such thing as “for sure completely knocked out”. If nothing else, you can build a completely new facility on the same plot of land. And that would be “the facility having been repaired”. Ukraine is damaging the facilities so that they are off for long enough. And currently it seems that the percentage of Russian oil refinery capacity off line is growing slowly but steadily.

It costs money keeping them off line, but it costs tenfold or hundredfold that much to get them back online. It’s a sensible deal!

There are a lot of pieces of news in the world that are found interesting by at least somebody. A piece of news being interesting to you does not mean that it has to be posted under any random piece of news.

It’s a bit difficult for me to say “how our news portray USA”, because this is of course in comparison to how it’s portrayed elsewhere. And I don’t really know very well how it’s portrayed elsewhere. But, here’s raw data for you to analyse. You can try to figure out what might have been news elsewhere but was not in Finland, and also, if there’s anything about USA that was news in Finland but not elsewhere. Then you can say yourself what the answer seems to be regarding Finland.

Warum sollte Russland Resourcen in Finnland binden wenn der Krieg anfängt?

Weil es Russlands ziel mit diesem ganzen ist, die alten grenzen der russischen Imperiums zu bekommen. Finnland gehörte damals dazu.

Wenn, dann wird es ein Luftkrieg und der wird überall zwischen Russland und den Nato Luftwaffenstützpunkten ausgetragen. Der Unterschied zwischen russischen und westlichen Kampfflugzeugen ist dermassen enorm, dass der Gewinner eines solches Kampfs schon im Voraus eindeutig ist.

Nuklearkrieg kann Putin zumindest jetzt noch nicht. Das habe ich in anderen Kommentaren hier schon erzählt. Davon braucht man noch keinen großen Angst haben. Wenn wir der Ukraine nicht endlich ausreichend unterstützen, dann kann Putin es hinkriegen, einen Atomkrieg einfach alleine anfangen zu können. Aber heute geht sowas noch nicht.

Schweden hat Finnland nur bis 1809 erobert. Das ist echt lange her. Das, was in den letzten Jarhzehnten passiert, und das was, vor 200 Jahren passiert ist, sind nicht in der gleichen Maß relevant.

Wenn man sich anschaut, wie die Karte der finno-ugrischen Völkern vor der koloniale Ausdehnung Rußlands vor etwa 500 Jahren gesehen hat, und wie sie heute aussieht, versteht man vieles. Dann gibt es alle die Maßnahmen, die Rußland immer noch betreibt. Du solltest ein bisschen Geschichte lesen. Z.B. Frankreich, Spanien und England sind früher ähnliche Kolonialmächte gewesen, wie Rußland heute. Zu sagen, dass ein Kolonialmacht kein Sklavervolk sei, ist ziemlich… Ist “verrückt” das richtige Wort?

Es gab 40 finno-ugrischen Völker. Dann 39. Dann 38. Zap. Zap. Zap. Ein nach dem anderen abgetötet.

Oder man schaut sich einfach an, was in den jetzt kolonisierten Teile der Ukraine vorgeht. Die Folterlager, wo Leute fast ohne Essen in sehr kleinen Räumlichkeiten, ohne zugriff zu ausreichende Toiletten, erzählen vieles.

Oder man schaut sich die Menge an Letten an, die Lettisch als Muttersprache sprechen. Von so um 80 % oder mehr in 1940 zu unter 50 % bei 1991. Das war gezielt so. Hätte UdSSR nicht zerfallen, würden mittlerweile nur noch etwa 20 % der Letten lettisch sprechen. Und bei 2050 oder so, wäre endlich erfolgreich 0 % erreicht. Wie bei den finno-ugrischen Völkern.

Oder… Das ganze wird noch klarer, wenn man sich das ganze noch um eine Ebene abstrakter anschaut… In den Videos der Julia Davis haben wir sehen können, dass Rußlands Ziel eindeutig ein Völkermord ist. Ein Volk das Völkermörde liebt, ist nicht unbedingt das freundlichste.

Und dann gibt es noch das ganze eckliche mit Rußlands Rechtsextremismus, dessen Folgen in der Ukraine bis 2014 und in meisten anderen Ex-Sowjetländer bis heute ein ständiges Gesprächstema in Deutschland ist. Wer etwas gegen Faschismus hat, wird sich natürlich von Rußland sehr fern halten wollen.

Nebenbei, die DDR hat auch russische Erfahrungen. Zählt das nicht?

Eigentlich schon. Und es hat mich früher oft überrascht, warum so viele dort so wenig verstehen, was Rußland heute ist. Aber, in einer Hand gab es die Eroberung der DDR durch BRD. Wenn jegliche positive Denken um das, wo Leute ihr Alltag gelebt hatten, untersagt wird, dann kommt es zu einer Gegenreaktion. Da wird Sozialismus viel rosiger gesehen, als sinnvoll wäre. Zweitens gibt es die DDR schon seit 1990 nicht mehr. Das sind stolze 35 Jährchen. Leute, die damals geboren sind, sind bereits mittleren Alters. Und wenn man die dazu zählt, die unter 10 Jahre alt in 1990 waren, und damit weniger von der internationalen Politik verstanden haben, sieht das noch krasser aus. Diejenigen, die z.B. in 1950’er geboren sind, haben oft aber keinen solch rosigen Bild von DDR wie die jüngeren. Aber ja: Die Deutschen sind mir mittlerweile ein Rätsel. Als ich 2008 bis 2010 da gewohnt habe, hieß es noch “Nie wieder!” Und jetzt heiß es für vielen “wir wollen Renditen! Die Faschisten dürfen gerne tun was sie wollen, solange uns billiger Gas fließt!” Es ist erschreckend, wie schnell Deutschland das ganze vergessen hat. Früher war man gegen Faschismus, heute nur noch gegen Hakenkreuze. Die russischen Faschisten tragen (zum größten Teil) keine Hakenkreuze, sind also gute Kerls.

As a clothing style it seems to be kind of “casual punk”. The clothes are more akin to everyday clothes. Then again, holes in clothes are used more than in “traditional punk costume”. Some crust punk people radiate a feeling of being kind of part hipster, part punk.

I am likely to write comments in Finnish, English, German, Ukrainian, Russian, Latvian, Estonian, Polish, and Lithuanian.

Most of the comments I write on Piefed are in English because I come from a small country, but I would absolutely prefer them being translated to Finnish instead. Now it apparently works so that I must write comment somewhere in FInnish and delete it so that I will get some French text translated to Finnish instead of English?

And the same, just about a week ago I wrote a comment in Lithuanian. It was just a few words because my Lithuanian has gotten a bit rusty in the 11 years after I quit my university, and my Lithuanian is rusty. Now, if I had wanted a Portuguese text translated after having written that comment, I would have first needed to find some excuse to write a comment in Finnish or at least English or German, because those three are the only three languages in which I can comfortably read a long text.

I would suggest just allowing the user to choose the target language in the settings. Maybe put a tiny arrow next to the globe icon to choose some other language? And then translate by default to the target language that was chosen through that tiny-arrow-menu the previous time?

To underline: You cannot even choose the language a person has used the most, because a lot of people write more posts in English than in their native language. I’m not sure if Finnish is supported as a target language – probably not – but a German person would definitely prefer having German as their target language even if they just took part in a conversation with foreigners. As I am doing right now.

A citizenship or a personal history is not a race.

Some cool spots, such as calmly ordering a hot dog while cars are flying over your head into their destruction. And the flying ambulance. And the difficulty in leaving the hospital.

But yeah, the traffic is efficient! It’s a very dynamic city!
