that’s bound to happen, but I’d like to think both parties are on the same level and if there’s proxies in play, everyone asks reminders and automatically reminds what everything is (if they’re making an obvious goof). IMO, could be soup cans for all I care, as long as everyone is consistent about it.

I’m being way too serious about this, but: Whatever you do with your toys outside of the game, who cares? You do you. It’s fine. Want to marry Angron with Sparkledash (or whatever the ponies are called), do it. DO. IT. And post pictures, I wan’t to see that shit.

When we play, I’m going to allow Sparkledash on table if you say before game what it is proxying for. I’m cool with that. Doesn’t matter if he/she/it married Angron or left the guy on the altar. Not my biz.

I couldn’t care two shits if you played with chess pieces, as long as you declare what each piece represents/proxies and don’t mind me asking for refreshers because I’m gonna forget. But, as long as we play on good terms and have fun, all good.

Or don’t play, and have fun, because I could see myself totally busting that house with my minis and having a bakeout. Yes, I’m an adult, but nobody told me how to adult.

(edit: I main Chaos Knights (no, haven’t even seen the new codex, is it out yet?) and side Necrons. Both are down for barbie.

Disco Elysium? More or less entirely conversation-driven RPG about an alcoholic cop who drunk himself to submission so hard he forgot who he is, hence developing him back with skillpoints. Off the top of my head there’s like one combat situation which you can talk around if you’re so inclined.

Otherwise, it’s been said many times that “Planetscape: Torment” is similar … ish. Not the setting, but mechanics, apparently you can entirely go through the game without combat - but that’s not to say there’s not going to be bodies - or so I’ve been told, haven’t played the game to completion, only dabbled the beginnings.

So, these suggestions are with grain of salt, obvs. But afaik both are pretty high up on the rpg shelf.

  • sounds quite a bit like the survey they had some time ago, where every question was basically a sliding scale of which of the 2 things you like better, and every single one of them was essentially “more ai features, crypto and advertising <–> throwing kittens into woodchipper”. Totally not skewed at all.

edit: I’m probably (only) remembering single/few standout questions about it, and made it sound like it was the entire thing.

  • heroic overall seems to work better for installing games from gog, but the odd issue I have is that I seem to be always online on gog’s service when I’m playing games. Do you happen to know if there’s any way to set myself invisible? I don’t want everyone to know how often or late I play games :P

I guess technically signing out of the storefront would do that, but then I’d have to re-login to install/update games, eh

edit: oh derr, it dawned on me that it might be the Cyberpunk launcher which I had to login as well, which shows me online

  • IMO, basically any distro with fairly modern (fairly often updated) packages should do. Apart from some build/packaging differences it’s all same software anyway. The gaming side of software gets updated fairly often, so that’s why you’d probably want frequently updated packages.

“Gaming” distros are basically just selection of gaming specific packages installed as default, instead of lets say productivity apps. You can run VM’s in gaming/studio/whatever distros

FWIW, I got 5800x3D, RTX3090 - so, “close enough” same system as you. At least same series cpu/gpu. Running Arch, and gaming has been pretty easy, haven’t yet found a game which didn’t work - that said, some occasional game has had odd stutters (Darktide, for one. But I haven’t tested in months).

Getting things to run did get a bit more involved than “just click it”. Some extra compatibility stuff (proton-ge-custom), launchers (lutris, heroic, because GoG Galaxy just refuses to work). Steam & steam-games tend to “just work”, although actual native-linux games seem to have issues while running the windows-version of the same game on proton just work - WEIRD.

But overall, stuff works, and in case of issues it now just seems to be either disabling ntsync and/or wayland for specific games and gaming away.
