Yeah, I get that. I typically end up up voting everything.

Appreciate it.
I did see that, just not an option to mark it as read from voting.
I guess I’ll just have to get used to doing it another way. I’m used to up/down voting as I scroll through to mark them as read.
I didn’t want to select the option to mark read on scroll in case I wanted to come back to something later.

I got a 4/28 and got told I would have scored higher if I guessed at random. Ouch. (I am not a dev)
Far fewer people know that 0° and 100° in Fahrenheit also correspond to specific real-world values. 0°F corresponds to a temperature where a brine is made of equal parts ice, water, and ammonium chloride. Such a brine, interestingly, is a frigorific mixture, meaning that it stabilizes to a specific temperature regardless of the temperature that each component started at. Thus, it makes for a really nice laboratory-stable definition of a temperature. Similarly, 100°F was initially set at “blood heat” temperature, or the human body temperature. While not super precise, it was a fairly stable value. As good as anything in the early 1700s.

I think the brine probably froze at 0° F, which ended up correlating to 32° F for regular water. And the body temperature at 100° F ended up correlating to 212° F for water to boil. That’s the way I understand it anyway.

Macallan@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•It's Father's Day in the United States. What is a memory of your father that left the greatest impact on your life?English10·2 months agoUnfortunately for mine, that stubborn son of a bitch is still hanging around into his 80’s, while the rest of his miserable family had the decent common courtesy to kick it in their 60’s & 70’s. I went no contact about a decade ago, but I still get to hear how much of a piece of shit he is from the rest of the family.
The only positive that came from him is that I turned out to be a better father than he did. I have a good relationship with my nearly adult kids.
It was great until the Dev abandoned it. It hasn’t been updated in 15 months. 😡 😭
Macallan@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Your help needed: PhD research on why people choose to self-hostEnglish3·2 months agoI sort of fit that category. I am aware of self-hosting, even somewhat interested. But I know absolutely nothing about it, and if I’m being honest, too lazy to research it.
Truthfully, I haven’t owned my own PC/Laptop in over a decade. I just use the one I get from work if I need to do something on a computer. I preferred gaming on a PS4/5 so I could just relax on the couch with a controller instead of sitting in a chair at a desk. I recently got a steam deck and love it. I want to poke around desktop mode some more so I can get more familiar with Linux.
I just can’t get into The Big Lebowski. I’ve tried several times and can never seem to finish it.
For TV, it’s Seinfeld. I don’t find it funny at all.
Looks like she/he needs some chapstick. 😁
I did this once back in 8th grade after school one day, circa '92-ish. I was boiling water to make some box mac-n-cheese. Decided to go sit on the couch while I waited for the water to boil. Ended up crashing out on the couch and woke up to the smoke alarm going off after the water had boiled off and melted the pot similar to the picture.
Macallan@lemmy.worldto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck sales still going strong over three years later16·3 months agoJust got mine in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I love it. I haven’t played PC games since I was in high school in the 90’s. My son has one, and my girlfriend’s grandson has one. We’re all connected with family sharing. My daughter is interested in getting one now too.
Side note: Desktop mode is getting me used to Linux and I’m enjoying it. It doesn’t seem as intimidating as I imagined.
Nicely done!
I always liked the pure white build.
I have been wanting to do one of my own.
I always found it classy. I’m not a huge fan of the over-the-top RBG builds.
I’ve been putting off my own build because, while I have the money, I don’t have the time to game as much as I want to.
