  • By the time that Biden stepped down, there was no time for a primary. (And let’s be honest, that farce ran before wasn’t a true primary.)

She was the only person that could, at the time, get everyone into lockstep with her. She was also competent, experienced and skilled.

Aside from Israel/Palestine, her political positions weren’t particularly offensive either. (She should have thrown Biden under that bus, but I get why she didn’t. Hell. Biden should have dove under for her.)

I would have much preferred another; though they would never have manage as well as Harris did… particularly as Biden gave grudging support for her.

In the context of that moment in time, she was the only person with a chance at beating Trump, and that’s what made her “best”.

  • Given the circumstances- she was the best candidate. She did a stellar job cleaning up a campaign that was mired and bogged down in a flaming rubbish pile.

And yes it does seem like there was hellalotta cheating going on.

Ultimately she had 90 days or so to go against a douche who’s been campaigning and retconning his image for the four years prior.

The loss is not her fault. I place that entirely at Biden fucking shit up and holding on far too long.

All of that said- she absolutely shouldn’t be the ‘28 candidate. I’m pissed that she conceded before it was even official, and when there was clearly some question. They didn’t even look into it. (Smoke doesn’t always mean fire, but you’re an idiot if you don’t check.)

Then she disappeared as the US turned to shit and comes out with a book deal?!

Sorry. Nope. I respect what she did, but that doesn’t mean she’s the best option next time.

  • This is why you shouldn’t tell them.

    None of their damn business.

In any case. It sounds like you’ve thought it through and it’s not an impulsive thing. So no. It’s not “too early.”

You might change your mind later, and I’m going to add my voice here. I got snipped at 23, and have yet to regret it. And no, it’s not a matter of finding “the right partner”, I’m with the right partner now- she doesn’t want kids either.

(And in any case it’s usually reversible, of you do. Expensive and more invasive than the original procedure, and it’s not always certain. But the potential is there.)

You realize you can set up commands that get ran on start up, right?

Including one to update apt or whatever package manager and then upgrade.

Most versions of Linux can handle installation with no user input, or leaving the session. Kernel updates require a restart, but the update is already installed.

(Whether you should or not is an entirely different matter.)

  • I’m gonna be the odd one out, I guess.

At a picnic, it’s likely that you’re not grilling just for the kids; and likely that grilling means you’re excluded from other activities.

Activities like playing games with said kids.

Bringing them into the picture instantly becomes manipulative, where you can make the same argument (that they need to be cooked, and someone has to do it,) without it.

Edit to add some background: I’m an uncle, but not a father. At family picnics, my bro and parents like to use my nephew and nieces as a guilt trip so I let them task dump; even though we’re organized enough they’re fairly equitable (including watching the kids as a task, even if it’s more fun.)

    SiL in particular is egregious.

It’s always manipulative, even if when the child’s wellbeing is directly involved, it’s maybe called for. But that really shouldn’t t be the case at a picnic.

Most parents don’t even realize they’re doing it- ie asking you to cover their summer vacation (and not reciprocating.) at work.
