Except then everyone has to suffer for the stupidity of few, and emergency vehicles can’t got faster in an emergency…

? You’ve never seen a cop park right over a little dip in the road at the bottom of a hill right where the limit changes?
I’ve never seen stupider argument than I have with these speed camera debates. Read the speed limit sign, look at your speed, follow that speed. I’d prefer your careless ass get a ticket in the mail from a camera than pay a dumb cop to sit there all day letting his buddies and “important” people go while giving everyone else a hard time.
I don’t. All tools can be abused.
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto Relationship Advice@lemmy.world•Relationship with my mom is staining because I don't know if I can be her caretakerEnglish5·8 days agoJust be careful, it’s in the brothers interest to have free care for his mother and to inherit the maximum amount of money…
Depending on your relationship with your brother, a private conversation first to figure out where he stands in is order. But depending on what culture you come from… You might have to stand up for yourself. Sorry your mother has these expectations of you and I hope you can find a solution that allows you to maintain a good relationship with your mother. But more importantly, protect yourself.
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•'Chimp Crazy' star Tonia Haddix arrested as authorities find another secret chimp in her homeEnglish5·8 days agoSo what is HBOs liability in all this? I started my original comment with “why aren’t the producers all the way down to the camera OPs not being charged with somethng?” But then… This situation is bullshit but real journalists need incentives to seek out serious crime, and need to be able to record and report on it…
But then if she was keeping a human prisoner, obviously that wouldn’t fly…
Where is the line? At what point does (“should”, I know this will never happen) HBO get all their profits seized and rights to the doc taken away?
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•US tech CEO resigns after Coldplay concert embrace goes viral6·14 days agoMostly true. Depends on the structure of the company I’d imagine. Pretending shit works like it’s written in the rule book and not exactly what you just said (won’t get involved cause he is boss) HR would absolutely bring this to the board of directors as it jeopardizes the company’s bottom line. And we all know Money is the real boss.
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•US tech CEO resigns after Coldplay concert embrace goes viral482·14 days agoIt’s not the cheating. It’s the “porking your HR lady” part that’s a problem for companies who dont want to get sued.
I haven’t read to many articles on the matter but for all we know hr lady does not like him at all but wanted to keep/get that job and now she is stuck in an abusive relationship. Can’t share with her partner cause yeah… And can’t get HR to step in cause… Yeah.
No evidence that is the case but that’s why we should fire CEOs who date their underlings. You are right we should absolutely not be firing people for not abiding a religious/social contract that has nothing to do with their job.
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•US tech CEO resigns after Coldplay concert embrace goes viral50·14 days agoI’ve seen this response a ton and I think that’s exactly correct, but I can’t imagine the anxiety in the hours, day and weeks after. Just waiting and wondering if anyone recognised you, if anyone had a recording/proof. Then after a few months under the radar I might not be a complete train wreck.
But then what if Coldplay puts out a Netflix special or something, then I’d have to wait and wait until it came out and then watch it and see if that moment makes it into the recording… And if it does? Now I’m just waiting for some random friend of a friend to watch it and go “hang on…”
I think I’d rather this timeline, if I was that idot.
Probably why I’d never cheat on my partner, especially at a huge public gathering, when the person I’m cheating with is an employee and I’m the fucking CEO and could lose my job over it.
Thankfully this man will certainly continue to fail up, and as soon as this news quiets down he’ll get hired by some other goon just like him to some other lucrative job where you just have to be an asshole a few times a week and otherwise the money will roll right in.

Royers is a Canadian company and ONE in their lineup of work boots are made in Canada, though you’ll have to figure out which. People at the safety shoe store are happy to tell you they are all made in Canada even after you show them the tag on the tongue that says Vietnam.
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Farm worker dies a day after chaotic immigration raid at California farm37·22 days agoWhy isn’t the farm owner under arrest? They claim they don’t hire illegal immigrants. So is Ice arresting and reporting legal temporary workers, legal American citizens, or is this employer just flouting the law?
if this whole thing were actually about stopping foreign illegal workers, it would be quite easy to just arrest the bosses of any company found to be using them. 1 year in jail and a $2000 for ever worker found to be without proper paperwork. Give the workers half the fine money and a bus ticket back with a warning and put them on a list. They probably deserve more for the abuse they had to tolerate so their American boss could make their money.
Again, if the intention is as we are being told. It’s harsh but fair for everyone involved.

Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•‘An uphill battle’: why are midlife men struggling to make – and keep – friends?5·23 days agoWhere do you live? The reserve armed forces in Canada would fit that bill, depending on your feelings about that. A day a week and a weekend a month, I forget exactly but it’s consistent, paid, but it’s supposed to be easy enough to fit into a normal life schedule. They usually do disaster relief and stuff like that when they do get called, but theoretically you could be signing up for more given the state of the world.
Boy scouts/girl Guides/youth groups are always looking for group leaders.
Volunteer fire also gets close to that mark, it’s voluntary but if you don’t show up you get replaced.
And volunteer becomes “mandatory” the deeper you get. If you can find a small soup kitchen or conservation group, and really hold yourself to it for a few months, you might find you become vital to that organization. Then I guess it’s up to your personal brain chemistry what “mandatory” means. If you have the keys, I’d assume you’d be there 30 minutes before the weekly soup prep afternoon is supposed to start to open up and meet that new person to show them around.
Many of these groups are small and in desperate need of good help and sometimes even leadership. On that same note some are little fifedoms and if you aren’t getting good vibes just cut bait and move on.

Which is why she told me to go to my doctor. But since she went to school for years and takes annual courses to keep up to date on human bodies and how they function, and she spends every day of her life literally hands on hundreds of different human bodies for the past 25 years so far, I’d say she has a much better grasp on how supplements affect people than my plumber, if I had a plumber.

This is that.
Chip_Rat@lemmy.worldto Public Health@mander.xyz•Woman takes 10x dose of turmeric, gets hospitalized for liver damage61·23 days agoThank you for doing that. I found this out first thing in the morning and am now on my first work break, I hope I would have figured this out eventually but it was bothering me already today. My workmate had the rational thought “it’s got to be a factor of 10 difference or something, you should reread the label when you get home.”
But again, thanks, now I have a little peace in my head until I can do some more research. I poison my liver with alcohol. I don’t need extra help…
As for why I take it, I was instructed to by my family doctor as well as my (far more trusted and who I’ve known far longer) Massage therapist, who explicitly said “I can’t legally tell you to take supplements because laws and such, but go ask your doctor about x,y,z.” Which I did.
Forgive me if you thought I was pointing at you specifically. I’m pointing at idiots who make all these stupid and childish arguments, in this thread, but in every Lemmy post about speed cameras.
The real problem is people incapable of adhering to societal rules. The real problem is children in adult clothes getting mad when they actually get in trouble for breaking rules. “Oh why dont they just redesign the whole town to make that impossible?!?! What if someone hacks the speed camera and gives innocent people a ticket!!!Why must I read and obey the speed limit??? Oh the injustice!”
Speed cameras are inexpensive, they are not prejudiced, and they work. They cause no trouble to anyone obeying the limit and send a ticket to those who do. To everyone who also argues about fines being legal for the rich, yeah, that’s bullshit. Solve THAT problem. I’m all for it.
