False equivalencies, or ‘Whatabouts’ are not a form of argument, they’re a deflection debate tactic.

What you’re calling AI is a mass marketing ponzy scheme. LLMs are not even actual AI. Beyond that issue, its development is in the hands of capital exclusively, and it will only exist to serve capital interests which come at the expense of the lower and working classes by necessity given what corporations (which are essentially unregulated in current climates) are designed to do. What you’re calling AI will only be used to hurt human lives and worsen living conditions for all of us (before you nitpick, I think enabling the 0.1% and their hoarding pathology hurts them too). I personally believe you’re already aware of that and are cynically trolling, and despite that I’m giving you the honest truth and factual reality of this subject because there is nothing good about being a techno-fetishist sociopath who thinks the answer to humanity’s problems is to make humanity itself obsolete, even if it’s ‘cool’. You clearly got the wrong fucking message from Terminator.
This is why when actual AI emerges I can only hope it’ll be in the hands of a public or collective development process and designed with an intent of progression and cooperation in mind.

Binturong@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why democrats under Biden administration didn't release Epstein files?English4·13 days agoThis is the actual answer, cutting right through the smoke and mirrors and bullshit. Anyone who had the displeasure of reading through the flight logs that were available in their entirety online almost a year ago and probably still are: saw just what names pop up, often multiple times. This is the most bipartisan issue there ever was, so NOBODY in power wants to touch it.
Binturong@lemmy.cato Technology@lemmy.world•Adblockers stop publishers serving ads to (or even seeing) 1bn web users - Press GazetteEnglish16·13 days agoSo this confirms that people have a negative reaction to ads, which every actual internet user knows in their bones already. This means they ALSO are not even doing their one job of persuading people to buy shit. Of course this won’t lead to companies reducing investment for ad carrying or finding ways to make them more appealing, that costs money, instead they will use AI generators to produce WORSE ads and leverage their capital to have governments capitulate and force users to watch by banning blockers, probably VPNs too. Bill Hicks was the most correct about advertising, and remains undefeated.

Binturong@lemmy.cato News@lemmy.world•CBS to Cancel ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Citing ‘Financial Decision’English50·16 days agoHey, gotta pay for their corrupt bribes somehow, right?
Stephen deserves better, so does the audience, and I hope he spends the rest of the time there making the pus-sucking execs regret their bullshit. While I doubt they can feel shame or embarrassment, I’m confident he can find ways to make the stain set; and then move on to do something independent so I can support him, cause through ups and downs he’s been a real one for a large part of my life. Mostly I hope Paramount actually dies of shame and fails entirely as a company, and the merger their executives burning this all for is a monkey’s paw that gives them all gigaherpes and ass cancer.
got that dangle-leg chill goin, hell yeah

Binturong@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Head Down or Elbows Up? Canadians divided whether Carney can deliver a trade deal with TrumpEnglish5·19 days agotRump has said many times, quite clearly, that there is no negotiation that will impact the removal tarriffs. They are there to stay, and only grow punitively. He’s not interested in negotiation, he’s interested in extortion and appeasement. Conservatives want to paint this as strategic concessions, but that regime to the south has proven time and time again they’re only interested in taking. So I suggest we not follow the conservative line and concede bit by bit out of cowardice until there is no recognizable Canada, but instead rally to defend each other and our shared interests separate from reliance on, and cooperation with the US. We all know tRump’s ideological daddy is Putin, and I’ll leave it to you to google the history of international treatise and compacts with Russia, and specifically his Russia.
If you’re STILL acting like there’s any good faith coming out of the tRump regime, which is a requisite for actual negotiation, I’d say you’re too naive to have an opinion on international trade and foreign affairs at all; and if not that, you actively want to be absorbed by an increasingly fascist regime but are too cowardly to own that sentiment. If it’s the latter, just move there, we don’t need you.
Meanwhile Europe and Mexico and many other existing international partners can and will fill the trading void resulting from tRump’s aggression and deceit; that’s one of the benefits of establishing relationships based on real cooperation and good faith dealing, which is arguably Canada’s greatest legacy. I challenge you to count the remaining friends of today’s USA and tell me how that’s helping their internal and global prospects, and tell me how that’s expected to turn out for us if we follow their psychotic and self-destructive example.
Binturong@lemmy.cato Reddit@lemmy.world•r/israel in meltdown over Superman movieEnglish111·19 days agoWoke is tolerance, empathy, and a desire for the betterment of all at the expense of none (from the best of my observations studying conservative media). These are all the things the Israeli state leadership and a disturbing plurality of Israeli citizens and zionists around the world ideologically oppose because addressing those tenets challenges their ability to justify genocide. Imperial Ethno-states cannot be woke, by definition, even if they dress themselves in the imagery and rhetoric of tolerance (the most Humane Army shit). So yeah, of course they’re gonna shit their pants over this ‘woke’ messaging in media, cause they desperately need to control the narrative of their crimes in Gaza. My sympathy to the horrifically oppressed there, and the Jewish people both in Israel and abroad who rightly and justly oppose the violence. May the Netanyahu criminal regime collapse as soon as possible.

Yeah, I mean you’re here stomping your feet over semantics by leaning on a dictionary definition rather than acknowledging that all your criticisms of other political systems absolutely applies to your defense of Liberalism. In so far as we’re existing only in theory, the things you said about Liberalism are true (according to the source that you didn’t cite), but in the actual world and as applied through history, Liberalism simply isn’t what that definition claims anymore, or Liberals aren’t Liberals despite their claims. Both can be true.
P.S. you’re bad at this defense thing.
