  • You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.

They elect politicians who lie to them because any time they encounter a new thought they revert to fear and racism.

But also remember that over 4.8 million Texans voted against Trump which is more than the population of at least half of the other states in America. There are more Democrats in Texas than people in other states. Many of their votes are not heard due to the Republicans in power and, not to mention, local candidates who run as Democrats and turn coat.

AND that’s not even counting how ‘right wing’ Democrats are. Yeah, ‘proud Texans’ by and large suck. You’re not wrong.

  • The other guy said it “God willing” but that means like “Am I gonna stick to this diet? God willing.” and then you go eat cake like “Guess God didn’t will it.” or “See you at 7? God willing.” and then your car breaks down but you manage to catch a cab there in time - clearly God wanted you there.

It’s like a maybe more than a hopefully.

  • There’s more than a few good things. Near cities, lots of diversity - so, Indian, Syrian, Nigerian, and Texas BBQ all within five miles of each other. Farther out from cities, lots of natural beauty. A bunch of state parks, beautiful dark sky areas, and so on. The weather isn’t terrible once you acclimate unless you really like rain.

That said, it’s 90% cult speaking when people say that. Texas is the cool thing to say because guns and Jesus. Most Texans stay indoors and don’t care about anything more than that nearest shipping mall or grocery store. Most Texans just go to fast food joints. Austin is a shit city.

But, with how big Texas is, it would be really hard to say there’s not something to love. Not the politicians or the fake freedom but there’s something.

  • I consider myself to be ‘techie’ for lack of a better word. I have custom janky solutions for everything. I have in the past written down a blue screen and troubleshooted it to give the IT team notes… Hell, I used to be the guy IT would call if they received a ticket from my office (anyone in my office) because I could give them more details and such… So, I like computers and shit, right?

And holy fuck I don’t get the Linux world. I used Mint back in '13ish and it was fine but in a different place back then. I use Pop_OS! on my laptop and I like it just fine. I use Ubuntu on my secondary computer and I like it just fine. I don’t get what I’m supposed to prefer about all these different distros/environments. I can’t wrap my head around it. Do y’all change OSes that often? Am I missing out on something? Am I wrong or are y’all the kids who are wrong?

  • I mean, to reduce your losses? I’ve had a budget balance out red, compared my options and been incredibly lucky. I would not have been quite as lucky if I’d just said ‘fuck it’ and zero’d out the balance.

Billionaires shouldn’t exist, social support structures should be stronger, I have only succeeded based on community and relationships… But you gotta try at least.
