Marriage? Yuck.
Marriage? In this economy?
We get that this is a joke.
However, we’ve never really liked the thought of marriage since we were small. We see it as unnecessary to express love, and really it’s just a contract and a way of telling the government to give you increased rights and responsibilities.
We’re polyamorous and so could not get married to all our partners even if we wanted to, which we don’t because we see marriage as creating a hierarchy, and as relationship anarchists we are against hierarchies in our relationships.
We wish the legal situation was better where we didn’t have to be married to move countries to be with partners, as well as having legal rights whilst others could also have those same rights etc.
We, of course, wish there was no legal system around this (or in general but that’s a different discussion) and people could do whatever the heck they wanted in regards to relationships, rights, responsibilities etc.
We know there are workarounds, but honestly they sound like a lot of money, time and effort when it could be solved simply by governments staying out of our relationships and allowing us to grant rights and responsibilities to whoever we liked without signing a piece of paper declaring marriage, rings, title or name changes etc.
