      It’s because Europe is losing its relevance for the US. What made Europe important during the Cold War was the ideological challenge from USSR. Now that Russia is capitalist, the US does not see it as any sort of ideological threat. China is the new ideological adversary, and thus the US interest lies in Asia now.
