It’s half cost of living. So, people who just want pub fuel for watching the footie just want a passable burger or similar for about a tenner.
Half just go to the actual gastropubs, they still exist. There’s still a few pubs I could get to within about half an hour who have decent chefs doing a nice menu. Sure they’re a bit more restauranty vibes and a bit more pricey than your sky sports boozer, but that’s the trade-off, there’s not a one size fits all business model that is practical in 2025
UK is so eager to return to its peak that the food is some sad, pallid Victorian affair before anything else.
Because most of it is microwaved slop
