never give up any of your rights, or any one else’s, just because “you’re not using them”.

reminds me of: “saying you don’t care about privacy rights because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say”

They call anything they don’t like “porn”. Gay romance is “porn”. Drag queens are “porn”. Acknowledging the existence of trans people is “porn”. Anything relating to queerness whatsoever is “porn”.

So when they push to ban porn, realize that this isn’t actually about porn. It’s about “porn”.

I get irrationally angry whenever I see censored text in a post. It only draws more attention to it. And I don’t buy the ‘avoiding offense’ argument. Talking around a topic is still talking about it. The only thing it does is show complacency with advertisers and the algorithm.

I made this meme myself out of frustration and I’ve noticed the occasional post that apologizes for a pre-censored post or image. I like to think my meme was the reason.

Tbf I don’t even agree with the avoiding offense argument. I’ve spent my damn life fighting censorship from the Christian Moral Right by intentionally offending them, for the single crime of attempting to control me. Now it isn’t just the Christians, but the advertisers, and even normal people now seem to have more sensative sensabilities than my 1940s ass grandmother.

Being offensive is sometimes necessary. What’s more, censorship offends me.

I generally agree with the sentiment, but coded language is part and parcel of a compromised communication space. That it’s thinly veiled only really speaks to the exact nature of algorithmic censorship.

I almost was kicked out of an ethics class. Because a girl got triggered that I defended artists who might draw Lolita imagery. I have no love for what they do. But I explained to the class. That any censorship of art would open up doors to destroy any art considered risqué.

Sensitive children shouldn’t be in college if they can’t accept that their world view is always right.

What I want to see either outlawed or behind strict age verification is online gambling, including in videogames as loot boxes as well things like counter strike skin casinos. That would be dope and cool and epic but it seems like there’s not much political will for that sort of idea. It will probably take a high ranking politician’s child spending thousands to gamble to get any sort of response.

Belgium did it. But since it’s only one country (and I think maybe one other?) the result is mostly belgians being annoyed that they can’t use some features in some games.

I feel for younger americans. Your older generations ruined the country for you and now as a last effort they voted trump in.

The most insane thing to me is at the core of the alleged argument for why all of this is necessary, is simply a demand of “freedom of religion” (at least when ignoring the quiet parts that are at the core of that, and aren’t even that quite anymore).

Not religious freedom and definitely not freedom from religion (separation of church and state) bc even saying that is somehow an attack on “freedom of religion.” If somebody started demanding we all follow sharia law and made sure kids know what’s in the quran, the same people demanding freedom of religion, would definitely be freaking the fuck out.

Since we’re a “Christian nation,” it’s what the forefathers intended. That’s not true, but if you say it enough times, insist that it was at one point, and claim all you’re trying to do now is return America to a place of these traditional values (a place that never existed), you can use this prefigurative traditionalism to force the country to accept any values you want.

Freedom of religion also works to give Christianity the same rights as any person (and more bc you really can’t go against God). Kinda like how it turns out corporations were people the whole time, we just didn’t realize it until the supreme court made sure we knew.

When I was in grade school I used to walk thru the alleys just to get the discarded porno mags exclusively to carefully read the articles later under my bed sheets. I graduated from college and are married and got kids. I think I’m OK mentally. But when am I supposed to be a lost soul? I gotta prepare for that. Probably need to lose a few tens of pounds.

Wait, am I supposed to be outraged because some content can be tagged NSFW?
