As someone who rarely commissions art (and never anything nsfw), I’ve wondered about it. Isn’t it really awkward to explain what you want, especially if the artist isn’t into it themselves or might not even be very familiar with the specific fetish or niche? Or do people usually commission that kind of art only from artists who are into it themselves and/or draw that specific stuff often?
It can be awkward at times, but I’d imagine it’s no different than describing any other kind of personal project to a designer, even outside of art.
People get custom niche things because they want custom niche things tailored to their interests - ask engineers and architects - they probably have had similar experiences with clients.

Usually a commission artist sets and makes known their does and dont’s beforehand, and if your request meets those we will gladly work for you. If a person is seeking something very specific there is a good chance they already know of someone who does that/ or something close to that. for fetish stuff the sure thing is asking those who you know already are open to do nsfw stuff, etc. If you browse arround the right places you can find someone who will take the job.
I don’t think people care that much. I do, but in general people don’t
I know a few artists as friends, they don’t really care for the most part as long as it’s not something illegal and commissions are open send it. Most of them got into art because they couldn’t find the flavor of smut that they liked in the wild. However its best to choose someone that covers similar kinks.
Why is a mouse version of the mechanic from Disney’s Atlantis doing a painting?
Pretty sure that’s a possum.
Ohhhhh, now it makes sense. Thank you!
