The donations are tied to GOG’s Preservation Program, which aims to keep old games running on new hardware even when they’re no longer supported by their original developers
I need more details of how this works, honestly. Are the donations going 100% towards game preservation efforts, as opposed to normal sales where GOG takes a cut to make a profit? If so then I can see it. But otherwise donating to a for-profit company seems odd.
They backed out of supporting the Stop Killing Games initiative led by Ross Scott so I rather doubt it’s to support preservation at this point.
