So my partner sent me a little erotic story they enjoyed reddit linky and I was inspired to cook up a little something of my own. It started as a simple one sentence idea, and now has a full outline with some partially written scenes. The idea is to have two people one an enthusiastic enjoyer of audio porn, another an amateur creator with a tiny following who find out they were each the inspiration for the other’s passion for audio erotica, and consequently bang.
What I’m struggling on is detailing, I have not been an audio porn enthusiast for most of my life. Close to the opposite most of the time (silent because I was trying not to get caught), and I don’t have a lot of experience in this area. Has anyone here made audio porn before? Have any details about equipment or communities I could use to make my story that much better? What was your process when it came to recording? Were you reading and acting entirely or were you masturbating etc at the same time?Did you do multiple takes?
On the other side of things, for listeners, what kind of genres did you listen to? Was it always scripted or was it more improvised? What kind of things would stop you from enjoying a recording if any? Is there any slang I should keep in mind for these communities? What makes one creator your preference over another? Is it delivery, the voice, the words, or something else?

And you are looking to… reformat this to itself be an audio production, basically, like an old school radio drama, but XXX?
Uh, even if I’m not quite understanding the actual thing you’re trying to do here, the following may be helpful:
I used to love just listening to the Twilight Zone episodes in that radio drama format, from back before what my Grandma would call ‘talkies’ (movies with actual audio) became widespread.
I’ve found that in comparing these kinds of older, dramas produced specifically for radio, sort of … acted out screenplays… to the more modern ‘podcast’ style of just reading an audio book, but then ‘texturing’ it with various sound effects… it makes more sense if you do basically just structure it as a stageplay, but where the audience is blind.
So, you focus more on like, foley effects, to convey say, footsteps changing from cobblestone to wood, as a door opens and a bell tingles, as a character enters a store.
You can do something like that and not use any actual narration, and usually a lot less uh, maid and butler style dialogue or internal monologue, to establish the basic situational context of a scene.
Write the whole thing as a stageplay, not as a short story.
All those well strung together words you use as a writer/narrator/internal monologuer?
Kill em, they don’t work, they don’t matter.
Save that for actual monologues and dialogues.
Maybe another way you can think of this is to play a video game that particularly pays excellent attention to sound design.
Footsteps change depending on the surface, a wood object dragging along concrete sounds different than a metal object dragged along mud, impact sounds vary by the amount of force involved, what materials are clashing, and uh… well, how wet those those materials are.
There uh, there are a good deal of various free libraries of sounds for game devs, and uh, also that are used by people who make uh, sfm or other digital porn shorts.
I guess I now have to clarify that I mean the traditional, non-AI way of doing that, actually using or making and posing and animating 3d models in Blender or SFM or something.
But yeah, you can find all sorts of uh, slurping and sucking and squishing and dripping noises, moans, screams, grunts, etc.
If you tried to just actually record yourself actually masturbating, you’d probably quickly discover that capturing the right audio from the right physical parts of a scene is actually pretty difficult, and your hardware for doing so likely sucks.
So, do what nearly all filmmakers do, dub it over in post, or, just don’t even bother really, maybe just block out the whole thing, again like a screenplay, and give you or your voice actors small chunks of scenes to record at a time.
All this being said, no I’ve not ever actually made any kind of porn, but, I have torn apart a few porn or adult video games to see how they actually work, I futzed around with audio engineering a bit for drama classes in college, and I have made several (non explicit) video game mods, I dabble in trying to make my own game, maybe, one day.
If you’d like, I might be able to find, in my tomes of bookmarks, some better sources for sound effects.
Maybe somebody else knows more about specifically the voice acting angle, how to actually source voice actors, give them direction…

To find ‘good enough’ voice actors for not very expensive?

Not exactly what I’m looking for. I liked the premise and execution of that short story, and was inspired to write a story also exploring audio recordings. The premise of that story is the bit about two people accidentally inspiring each other to get into it. So no voice acting or anything, I just want my text to be less jarring to somebody who has experience listening to that kind of thing to get off, or making that kind of thing for others to get off to.

Uh… ok, with what you’ve said now… there is a whole sort of subclass of porn videos called ‘JOI’, for ‘jerk off instructions’, where basically the visual component is somewhat minimized or less … hardcore…
And its basically just a seductivr voice and pretty face guiding you through how to climax… or maybe just edge you the whole time, lol.
I’ve not actually watched any of these, I just know they exist.
I think they are more varied than just gals narrating/instructing for guys, but I’m not sure.
So… this is actually kind of a blowing up niche in porn right now, so if your story is gonna be contemporaneous, I guess go punch up ‘JOI’ at pornhub, look in the comments section if you want to maybe try to explore the culture and lingo of this… fandom?

I remember stumbling on a subreddit a while back where people would offer scripts for others to act or act those scripts themselves. Can’t remember what it was called though so that was my starting point
