Home roasted beans from Sweet Maria’s. Specifically Burundi Gakenke Honey Process. I actually just finished an espresso 30 minutes ago because we were gone this weekend and my new bottomless portafilter was delivered on Friday so I was anxious to test it. I use 20g in and 44g out in ~35s.
A really nice bottle of equate fresh mint mouthwash.
Swish, then spit out, and don’t swallow
I wouldn’t want to waste a bottle this nice.
I roasted three small batches this weekend:
- Uganda Bugisu mt Elgon - light roast droptemp 192c
- uganda bugisu mt Elgon - slightly darker 197c
- Cuba Turquino Supremo - also light
Its really insane how big the difference in 5c and 30 sec is. Did cupping for the first time in my life yesterday evening. The difference between the same uganda’s is amazing.
I’ll roast that one again light.
And… now I’m going to make a nice espresso from the Cuban Turquino to wake up :)

Just ordered a couple of bags from Rogue Wave. A washed Burundi and a washed Ethiopian. Typically buy local but occasionally like to order from bigger roasters. Looking forward to trying these.
I buy the cheap Peruvian whole beans from Aldi, but I grind them and do a pour-over brew every morning. It’s quite tasty despite the obvious cheapness of the beans.
Single Origin Arabica Typica from Oriberry roasters in Hanoi, Vietnam. A medium roast from Lam Dong area of Dalat in Central Vietnam. Oriberry was created by an NGO and is the original 3rd Wave roaster in Vietnam. They do fair trade farm to shop coffee. Not sure if this link can be accessed from outside of Vietnam:

I’m finishing off my bag of Counter Culture Field Trip, which I will miss. It was Aeropress today, I’m out of V60 papers. I have about 20 grams left, great for a lazy morning at home, but maybe I’ll have someone over and share it.
Just got my first Costco membership and looking forward to trying Kirkland beans for the first time. $15 for a 2.5 pound bag. Usually 8 o’clock is my go-to, but if Kirkland is close to comparable, I’ll probably switch.
I just finished a bag of Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla. Absolutely awful artificial flavoring, but it was decently caffeinated.
I have started a bag of Lavazza House Blend Perfetto Medium Roast. After a few months of nothing but dark roasts, I’ve forgotten all my medium roast-fu, i.e. reduced brew time, and have to dial in my timing to get a decent cup.
After 1 week of experimenting, this particular bag seems to like a 4 minute brew time in my french press and aeropress.
It’s ground too fine to drip through my cucumella in a reasonable amount of time.
It’s not quite as fruity and flavorful as the local medium roast I had last year.
Just had a cup of espresso, local roaster, Monsooned Malabar beans.
enjoying some locally roasted Kenyan beans here lately. been making some extraordinary cups despite some months of lackluster brews.
also just freshed up the rubber gasket and switched to the single-doser on the encore – the new gasket seems to give a more precise grind setting and the rubber cap on the single doser makes it a lot less noisy overall. i think the stock hard plastic hopper acts like a trumpet bell.
